Sandy Berger sentencing delayed?
I read somewhere this morning that Sandy Berger's sentencing, which was scheduled for this month, has been delayed until Sept. I lost the article, and haven't yet been able to relocate it. The article speculated that the delay might have been because the judge wanted to nullify the plea bargain and send Sandy to jail.
Does anyone here at DU know anything about this? If it is true, can a judge simply cancel a plea bargan that has been agreed by all parties, even up to the point of sentencing?

1. I know a judge does not have to accept a plea. I do not know
the status of Berger.

Pleas are just recommendations to the court.

4. Interesting...
But if part of a plea is an admission of guilt, and the judge throws out the plea, would the admission still stand? If so, that would be unfair to the accused.

7. Pleas are heard by a judge without the jury present.
Also, the subject does not admit guilt until the plea is accepted by the court.

2. If you google it,
http://news.google.com/news?q=sandy+berger&num=50&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&sa=G&scoring=d

the only publications that come up are right wing rags.

Hmmmmm....

5. Poor Sandy. I can see someone so wracked with guilt after 9/11 that
he does nutty things and has weird fears. And makes a great mistake.
