Bob "Buckwheat" Barr on with Franken right now |
|
Bob isn't too bad (at times).
He was a Clinton Impeachment manager -- let's see how he feels about this current crowd of crooks.

7. Rove's problem is criminal, ongoing investigation |
|
and it ought to be.
Referencing the statue: it's very particular, and difficult to prove. The investigation is serious, nonetheless.
Bush's problem: has had a lot of problems for some time regarding intelligence.

6. Forgive Me For I Have Sinned...I Like Bob Barr Now |
|
May my late mother, who despised this guy during the Clinton Inquisition forgive me!! But he's one of the rare Conservatives who really sticks to principals.
Now...the big question...
Who screwed him over to drive him out of Congress and make him turn on the regime? Something must have happened...he's making way to much sense to be a current kool-aid drinking party member.

19. This Is A Very Good Interview |
|
Listening to Barr, I think we're hearing the mindset of a Fitzgerald here.
He was a former prosecutor and I think we remember how nutso he went about the perjury and law and order side in the Clinton days, now he's one of the few applying the same measure to this regime.
The other side is his CIA hat...pointing out how intel was maniuplated when he was there during the Nixon era and how it is now. He reluctantly agreed with Al that the intel was fixed, but he knows it...also added that this was never done under Clinton.
I'm sure he's heard a lot from former friends inside the agency about the hell that's gone on over the past 5 years and he's one of the few who has tried to speak out about it.
IIRC, he's working with the ACLU still and broke ranks with the GOOP over the "Patriot" act.
I'm enjoying this interview...Al's gotta feel like the cat that ate the canary (nothing personal...LOL).
Cheers...

Uncle Bob screwed himself out of his seat when they redrew the congressional districts in Georgia. Instead of staying in the disctrict he was redrawn in to, he moved into his old district and tried to challenge another 'pub who had better backing. Now he's regulated to running a show on an obsecure little AM radio station on Sundays.

22. Thanks For The Info & Welcome To DU |
|
I thought he was one of those who signed the "Contract On America" that said they should only serve 8 years and when that time came up he left. Of course, most who signed that thing are still wasting space and our tax dollars.
Wasn't he Newt's protege at one time...had the next district over? When Newt fell did he take Barr with him? Just curious...I never got the real picture.
Thanks for your post and welcome to DU

{I thought he was one of those who signed the "Contract On America" that said they should only serve 8 years and when that time came up he left}
From my recollection, the contract didn't stipulate term limits. Could be wrong about that, but it wouldn't be the first time that a politician promised to leave office after a certain time and then changed their mind.
{Wasn't he Newt's protege at one time...had the next district over?}
I lived in Gingrich's district and I don't recall Barr being considered anything but a peer to Newtie.
{When Newt fell did he take Barr with him? Just curious...I never got the real picture.}
No, Barr served until recently when he lost his race against another 'pub (in 2000, IIRC). After Newt resigned, Gingrich hightailed it out of here and moved to Virginia. Yeah...he really loved us here in Georgia, didn't he. :eyes:

IIRC correctly wasn't he born in New York? Sorta like a Texan who is actually a Connecticut Cowboy. LOL
I remember Barr joining the ACLU, just not sure if it was before or after those elections...losing the seat in the primaries makes sense.
BTW, which Atlanta station is he on? I'd like to see if I can sneak in and give it a listen.

40. Uh, don't go overboard with that, you'll hurt yourself |
|
He's got SOME principles and does stand up for them, but remember, SOME OF THOSE PRINCIPLES stink. Like the ones that made him go after impeachment for Clinton even before there WAS a Monica Lewinksy.
Some of them are terrific, like the ones that made him team up with the ACLU re Patriot Act.
I will be happy to give props to Barr where and when he deserves them, and he actually does now and then. But, he has NOT (and likely never will) redeem himself entirely, or become a completely transformed and benign figure.

41. Right Now We Need Allies... |
|
I've got a very long list of Congresscritters that need to be held accountable for the Clinton inquisition and they're still infesting my government...they include Sennsenbrenner, Pace, Rogan and several of the other "manglers".
Actually Barr's coming strictly from a Prosecutor's standpoint...and he did with Clinton. His bitch with Clinton was the lie...the perjury...and we can both agree the whole episode was a set up, so to best not to revisit that but view it in today's fiasco...and Barr's using the same perjury viewpoint in calling for Rove's head and saying out loud he thinks this is a conspiracy case that could involve others. That's quite a statement.
Trust me, Bob Barr won't be on my holiday card list this year...LOL.

said before the election that he didn't think he could vote for Bush ~ I don't know if he did or not. But he is opposed to the Patriot Act and joined with the ACLU, airc, in its efforts against the PA with another Republican whose name I forget.
He told Al Franken that this is something the American people can understand regarding 'intelligence' because it's a 'clear-cut' case about the outing of, possibly, an under-cover agent!
He thinks Bush has to fire Rove if he was serious in his previous comments about leaks in the WH.

i was disgusted with clinton's sexual exploits myself. i as a female was offended by his behavior torwards women, he had his sights on. i wouldnt be friends with the couple. i dont trust him. but.....
that had nothing to do with he being elected, the office or the constitution.
barr pissed me off during that. all the republicans did. i voted for clinton, because of the republicans behavior. and i have since, actively fought the republicans.

and I remember when he seemed radical, but even he is concerned about this administration which only underscores how bad they are.
His assessment of the Rove situation was that while the usual mouthpieces are all over television doing what political operatives do, Congressional Republicans are not defending him and are concerned and that is more important.
Someone said this week that as long as Rove's critics are all Democrats, he can paint the demands for his resignation as 'partisan', but that if Republicans join in those demands, then he is really in trouble.
So now, Bob Barr has joined the Democrats in saying that Bush needs to keep his word ~ I wonder is he just the first of the Republicans to come out and express concerns about Rove? I'm sure he still has many friends in Congress ~

24. 'Republican mouthpieces |
|
are doing what you would expect them to do'.
Al asking about charge that Wilson lied about who sent him to Niger.
Barr says, 'this is standard, you take things out of context and go with it'
He says, however, there are Republicans in Congress who are not out there defending Rove.
Al asked about Scott McClellan refusing to discuss it.
Barr says 'that's another trick ....'
On Patriot Act ..... Barr wants the American people to get involved to pressure Congress not to expand it and to 'bring back balance' ... pay attention to concerns of Librarians .... etc.

I have to say, he is one of a very few Pubs who have the ba**s to argue against what he believes is wrong, no matter who is involved and what party they are!
I, like some of you, can't believe I'm actually saying good things about Barr???? But I have to agree with everything he said today!
Seems to me I've also heard him on a few shows on Tv recently, and he was fighting against the Patriot act. I agreed with him then too!
