Why is the media making this Democrats vs. Karl Rove?
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 03:02 PM by cat_girl25
I wasn't watching the cable news networks except Olbermann and laterly Tucker but only because of Rachel, but since the Rove relevations have come out I've watched a little, they keep saying that the Democrats are stepping up attacks on the Bush administration and Rove; and then Kyra whatshername on CNN keeps saying it's partisan smear against the Republicans. You would think blowing the cover of a CIA agent has nothing to do with politics. It's a matter of life and death. WTF?

3. Because that's easier and more comforting than saying . . .
That Democrats care about the nation's welfare and security, and the Republicans are only interested in their own political fortunes (and yes, I do mean "fortunes").

It is their only defense. Slander and minimize.

It's so obvious. It's a little funny but also sad that the republicans don't care about the national security of this country. All they care about is Bush Rove Bush Rove Bush Rove Republican Republican Republican!!!

9. Because the Republicans are pretending Rove didnt do anything.
This creates the illusion of a Democratic attack.

Just like when the Republicans stopped using the term nuclear option. Then when the Democrats used the term the Repubs coined, the Republicans called it a Democratic term.

15. Because the media only understand black v. white, they have no gray
If a story doesn't have a clear cut either/or (he said/she said) type of conflict, they don't even see it as a story. That's why they waste so much time on child abduction and murders and shark attacks - - because they are life or death stories. The conflict could not be clearer.

Because of this tunnel vision, they only cover political stories that can be reduced to A v B. This is usually Republicans v Democrats (or Republican politician/candidate v Democratic politician/candidate), but it can be other things - - McCain v Bush (which is an absurd accounting of their very complex relationship), Blue States v Red States, Liberal Dems v Moderate Dems, the White House v Congress, Pro-choice v 'Pro-life', etc., etc., etc.

The republicans figured that out a few decades ago, and use it in every spin point they issue. That's why their knee jerk defense is always "The Democrats oppose it for purely partisan reasons" - - because they know the media will immediately grasp that, where they won't even begin to grasp "Our proposed policy will decrease the amount of green house gasses by 2% over the next five years."

20. Good point...
So long as they can do that, they can make it look like a "political" issue, rather than a criminal act by this White House. Also, it keeps their supporters united against the evil Democrats.
