Ever think that Rove didn't give clearance for Miller to talk
because she know much much more than Cooper? And they can keep her from talking and in jail because they have something on her, like her complicity in the run up to war? Just food for thought.

2. That's what I think
that she knows much more than Cooper. All Cooper can say is Rove said "Wilson's wife".

3. Or she doesn't WANT to talk because she's one of the gang
She's protecting herself as well as all of them. (She was complicit in spreading Curveball Chalabi's bad intel).

4. If I recall
One of the strange hang-ups that resulted in Cooper's "dramatic last-minute phone call" was that Rove's lawyer had issued a Blanket waiver for anybody Rove had talked to and Cooper's lawyer wanted a "specific" waiver...that is, specific to Cooper.

So unless Miller was waiting for a specific waiver (again, specific to Miller) and didn't accept the blanket waiver there's no reason for Miller to protect Rove.

5. He didn't precisely give permission for Cooper to talk
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 07:34 PM by htuttle
Cooper interpreted some spin Rove's lawyer spewed as permission.

The morning that Cooper was supposed to head to jail, the WSJ reported that 'Gold Bars' Luskin, Rove's lawyer was quoted as saying:

"If Matt Cooper is going to jail to protect a source," Mr. Luskin told The Journal, "it's not Karl he's protecting."

At the time, Cooper decided that that meant that he could testify.

I don't think they actually planned for him to testify. I think Luskin was just spinning, but Cooper took him seriously (since he was headed to jail, I certainly don't blame him).

7. Exactly- And I think Rove had previously told Cooper NOT to talk
Before Cooper went to the grand jury about Libby, he called Libby to be sure the waiver he'd signed wasn't coerced before he testified.

Why wouldn't he have done the same with Rove? If Rove had reinforced the importance of his anonymity to Cooper, and then, after Cooper went through all those legal hoops, he heard Luskin talking trash- Kaboom!

6. Miller is hiding a source she did not even write about
this bothers me. Who and what was said to her?

8. Why isn't Novak in jail too?
I've been on vacation in the woods, camping, white-water rafting, etc. Last night was the first time I head of Miller's jail term. I was jumping with joy. Let the bitch rot in jail. Now I want that criminal Novak to follow.

9. I'm Not Sure Cooper Got Permission To Talk
Think about it. Rove is in no position to say yes or no if asked if he gave permission or not. I think Cooper is just a spinless bastard that snuck his way out of this by simply making the claim he was released. If anything I suspect Miller is sitting in jail wondering 'why me?'.

11. No, I think Rove did give permission -- because he was boxed in.
Remember, Time had already turned over the emails and notes of Cooper -- which revealed that "KR" told him that "Wilson's wife" at the CIA had sent him on the Niger trip.

Rove couldn't let Cooper go to jail over something guaranteed to be revealed -- reporters would know that "KR" had let a fellow journalist go to jail to protect him as the source. He hand was forced.

Judith Miller doubtless knows much more than Cooper and could burn Karl even worse. She was not released because The NY Times did not cooperate like Time Magazine did.
