Question about LTTEs
regarding sending your letter to more than one paper. I know there was some brouhaha over papers receiving the same letter, but wasn't the issue that they were receiving the same letter from many different people? If a multiple papers receive the same letter from one person, why is that a problem?

I sent my Rove letter to the Denver Post but think I will send it to the Boulder Camera, too.

BTW, I couldn't find anything on either paper's website addressing this issue.

1. if they receive the same letter from more than 1 person
it means that they can't be sure if it is a real person sending the letter/email or if it is some sort of machine or organization taking names of a mailing list

2. yup
...and it will be tossed, especially these days.

If you want to appeal to a particular editor, localize the letter for their newspaper. Even the biggies are dying for local content.

3. So the same letter from the same person shouldn't be a problem, right?
I'll modify the second letter just to make sure.

Thanks.

4. modifying is a good idea
I've had several published in the Hartford Courant over the past year or so and they usually call to ask that I haven't sent the same letter in to other local papers.

But, I've had letters in other local papers & they have not asked that.

5. It's called 'astroturfing', I believe (no idea where the term came from)
it was "invented" by the RNC or some wingnut bunch and started out with identical letters praising Chimpy. If you submit to more than one, you really should change enough so it doesn't look 'canned.'
