On someone losing a job.
Sorry; didn't want to put the name in the title; one obviously DOES have to be a little cautious right now, eh?
Ok. I have been keeping up with this saga since the OP last night. Here's the follow-up:
www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4107281#4107865
and I have something to say about it.
We can all probably agree that while the actions described were admirable, they were obviously misguided because he lost his job; and by our standards of a work ethic, many posters to this thread think he should have expected to be fired or shouldn't be surprised that he was.Despite ridiculous interference from some lamea*** at FR. Fine; I have a strong a work ethic as any and try to see all sides of an argument.
HOWEVER, I do believe we are living in exceptional times, no? Can we all reasonably agree on that?
And exceptional times call for exceptional measures.
Which is what this gentleman went to; as far as he was capable.
I'm one to be talking; sitting here at my computer; the most I've done so far was sign a bunch of petitions and contribute to Andy and DU. Oh wow.
Could you guys look at the big picture here for once? I think we have passed the point of "well; it's a shame the US is going to hell in a hand basket but I have my job to worry about!"
This man did something about it. He saw an opportunity to change a few minds; get the message in under the radar; wake someone up.
If he even woke ONE person up,don't you think that was worth it? 'Cause we're talking' life or death here. Don't think we are?I'll ask you that in a year...we'll see. Why don't you ask an Iraqi.
So chide him all you want. I won't. He was doing his best, and someone was mean-spirited enough to screw him on a technicality.A technicality that really didn't harm anyone else.Haven't we had about enough of that around here?
Just my opinion.

1. I wasn't chiding him, just offering advice

The point is he revealed far too much information about what he was doing. That made him that much easier for some Freeper to pick him off. Some of the more extremist Freepers monitor this website heavily, and yes, it was his job that suffered, but it could have easily been his physical safety that was compromised.

While the flyer idea was good, he, in my mind, made a mistake by explaining in too much detail where he was and what he was doing. That's very dangerous.

Yes, stand up and fight. A person has to start somewhere, but a person doesn't have to expose himself to any more danger than is absolutely necessary.

4. "... it could have easily been his physical safety ..."
That's a good point. He could just as easily have beentargeted for some sort of "action" by a gang of idiots.

Poor guy, he learned the hard way. We can all learn from the experience. While this is a place for people to discus progressive POVs, it doesn't mean no crazies get in from time to time.

Apparently some crazies have far too much time on their hands.
