Black Expo bestows lifetime achievement award to *?
Are you KIDDING ME?

While President Bush was in Indianapolis touting his policies to one group of black Americans, the head of his party was in Milwaukee, making amends to another.

Speaking to an RCA Dome crowd of 3,200 people at Indiana Black Expo, Bush said his policies have helped many blacks grab a share of the American dream.

"I see an America where every citizen owns a stake in the future of our country," he said.

Bush's appearance was part of a one-two Republican punch. GOP chairman Ken Mehlman on Thursday addressed the NAACP meeting in Milwaukee, admitting to a group that has been strongly critical of Bush that Republicans "were wrong" to use the hostility of the civil rights era to win the votes of Southern conservatives.

5. This was the "Corporate Luncheon" - the kickoff to the weekend's
activities. Lots of white businessmen - and some black business folks as well. I know one of the latter who had his tickets long before it was announced that bushjr was going to be featured and given an award. Person was rather disgusted.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the bushfolks who pursued this - and the folks at expo felt that they couldn't turn it down (it is a HUGE regional event - folks come from many states) - and saw it as an opportunity to draw more corporate dollars to future events (events such as expo take a huge reserve of resources to pull off.)

None the less it is embarassing.

7. That could very well be.
Did you look at the pictures in the link to the article? There are lots of protesters outside, to Indy's credit. I grew up there and it is the bastion of fat, white corporate America. It was nice to see lots of different races outside protesting, although I doubt the local media there focused on that. Their media there is also fat, white corporate America. Thank god I live in NYC now.
