Just a quick question about tinfoil... |
|
I thought you Mercans always said "aluminium foil" (pronounced "a-loo-mi-num", without the second "i").
How come, when you're talking about crazy (or not-so-crazy) sociopolitical/military/economic theories, you use the more British "tinfoil"?

5. Then you should know... |

...that tinfoil isn't really made of tin!
You know what this means... it's a conspiracy by those damn aluminium manufacturers, to mislead you into using the wrong substance for your anti-mind-control headgear!
If they can get to the Reynolds company... they can get to anyone, man...

Reynolds wrap is composed of two metals. The dull side of the wrap is aluminum and doesn't do diddly squat to reflect the waves.
However, the shiny side, does reflect those nasty mind control waves. Be sure to put the shiny side out though.
The Reynold's aluminum wrap does work. My mind has stopped melting. No more do I wake-up in the morning with stuff ozzing from my ears. And that's what really matters.
Who cares if some reicht wing corporation makes the stuff, it works. Thats all that matters.

...it's just the mind control rays making you think that the mind control rays aren't working.
Not to make you paranoid or anything.

13. I wondered that myself |
|
And my wife became ever more concerned as I sunk more and more into despair.
So she made me a 'special' hat. Made it out of my favorite baseball cap, my Cubs cap.
She put the Reynolds wrap inside the hat, shiny side out, and then sewed in a liner, so others couldn't see that it was a very 'special' cap.
Before, when I ventured outside, I'd notice there was always someone dressed in a suit around close. Sure, it could be explained as coincidence, but I knew better.
Whenever I'd see these guys, I'd beat feet back to the safety of my home. My wife would then get angry because I didn't get what she asked me to get from the store. So she made the hat.
Well, I tried the hat, reluctantly. Expecting to once again see the suits furtively watching me.
It didn't happen. No suits watching. And overtime when I did see a suit, I could see they didn't pay me any attention whatsoever.
The conclusion is unequivocal, the hat was reflecting those mind probing waves and the suits couldn't detect me anymore. Sure they could see me, but detecting a questioning mind was now out of their reach.
Now I can go more or less anyplace, in safety and security knowing I am immune to their probing waves.

7. I wonder if it's an age thing. |
|
Perhaps the older generations still call it Reynold's Wrap, since it was the most common brand early on. And I suspect that widespread usage of the word "tin" may be similarly common among older Americans, who learned it when tin was actually more widely used in a variety of applications.
Which is not, of course, to suggest anything regarding the age of present company...

3. 'Tin' is a universal shortening of 'metal' |
|
After all, the Wizard of Oz has the Tin Man, who was clearly not made out of tin (wrong colour). When I was at school, a local bridge was called the Tin Bridge, though clearly made out of steel.
And to give Americans their due, they spell Al as aluminum too.
My only theory is that 'tin' is the shortest name for any metal, so that's been picked on as the quickest thing to say.

8. Indeed. We spell it "aluminum" and pronounce it |
|
"tin."
Like "tinning" a wire means to coat it with solder (which is an alloy of lead and Sb).

6. Doesn't It Come From the Alien Abduction Nuts |
|
It's just some saying people use in reference to paranoia. Some strange people believe if you wrap your head with tinfoil the aliens or the government can't read your mind. I saw it in a movie one time related to aliens. Anyway, here's what Wikipedia has to say. I haven't read all of it, though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinfoil_hat
