Perhaps it's time to dig up the NYT's article that appeared September 12, |
|
2001, on the front page I believe, that announced Al Gore won the 2000 election definitively in Florida, any way you counted the votes. The fact that it appeared on that day, of course almost guaranteed that it would not be noticed. Maybe it will be of interest to people now, hmmmm, I wonder. Republicans are now saying that Dems are attacking Rove now, just because we want revenge for blivet beating us twice in the national Presidential elections. They may not expect this news to resurface right now, and most people don't even know about it.
I hate paying for articles in the Times but I'll go try and dig that one up (that is if it hasn't disppeared down the memory hole).

1. IIRC, the Newsweek issued the week before 9/11 said the |
|
same thing.
I was subscribing to Newsweek then. I was not yet totally disgusted with them.
I wish I had saved that issue. Maybe I will go to a library and photocopy the articles.

2. just checked Lexis/Nexis - no story |
|
fyi - there were 9 articles in the month of September 2001 which included the terms "Gore" and "Florida" anywhere in them. the September 12 article mentioned Gore only in regards to a quote attributed to a former campaign worker of his, and as for Florida the article only mentioned that Bush was criticized for not departing Florida to return to Washington, instead he headed to Nebraska.
interestingly, the article, in mentioning this, noted: "At the height of the Cuban missile crisis, when the sense of danger was just as palpable, John F. Kennedy stayed in Washington." of course JFK also actually served in the military also and had a hell'uva lot more backbone than the tin-cowboy does....

3. Randi Rhodes always mentions this article and I vaguely remember seeing it |
|
myself, although I live very close to ground zero so I had other things on my mind that day. I'll search archives on her site, or email her about it. It might be a handy thing to float out there, we can't prove he stole 2004 (yet)but I think enough people at this point are wishing he would go away, they might be more receptive now to proof that he should not really be there in the first place.

6. Okay - couldn't find my copy of the 9/12/2001 NYTs - but I was at the |
|
library today, and skimmed the story headlines of the 9/12/2001 NYTimes.
Not one mention.
