The similarities between "Nixon Republicans" and "Bush Republicans"

For those that remember Nixon and the Watergate years and how the Republicans were steadfast in their support of Tricky Dicky, even as all the negative stories and facts were coming forward. They thought it was just "politics" by the Democrats. Not until the word "jail" came up and "impeachment" and "resignation" did it dawn on the Nixon Republicans that their Party was in deep shit and their leaders were crooks. They couldn't believe it.

Now, we have the Bush Republicans that seem to be cut from the same mode. Bush can do no wrong. It's just the Democrats playing "politics"...But the lies are coming out. The criminal acts will be exposed. Once again, the Republicans may find out that their leader is a liar and a crook. They can't believe it. Not until they hear the words "jail", "impeachment" and "resignation", will it dawn on them...

1. The hardcore

Republicans believe in hero worship. Look at the way the idolize Rush Limbaugh and Ronald Reagan, It borderline sick. They have no independent thought process. It is a truly bunch of sick people.

I say we find Nixon's shovel, get it out of storage and give it to Bush, because obviously he needs a good one to dig his own political grave.

3. The glassy-eyed, wingnut component is new

These people will NEVER turn on W even with the words jail, impeachment and resignation. Facts and logic mean nothing to them...they have faith.:scared:

4. When the latest NYT story on Novak/Rove came out, I experienced

something very close to deja vu from the 1972-1974 era. It was quite striking to me, last night. I wouldn't make any predictions based on that feeling, but I did note the feeling. White House is in full-blown cover-up/crisis mode, and the RNC is snarling like a cornered feral cat.

and, unlike Nixon, the cover-up this time is not as serious as the crime, perhaps?

There appears to be an intersection with Dubya's cabinet.

10. different positions

Rummy was director of the Office of Economic Opportunity, Cheney was his special assistant under Nixon. Cheney then became White House Chief of Staff and Rummy Secretary of Defense under Ford. Rummy then went to the Searle to make NutraSweet until serving as Special Envoy to the Middle East in Reagan's second term, where Cheney served in Congress in both Reagan's terms. Bush Sr. saw Rummy in the private sector again as CEO of various corps (e.g. RAND) and Cheney as Secretary of Defense.

So Rummy and Cheney have been in/around the presidency and defense contractors quite a bit.

These guys think they're doing God's work.
