So There's A Mole On Fitzgerald's Staff Leaking Info To The NYTimes?
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 11:04 AM by cryingshame
information that may or may not be accurate and which supposedly shows Rove didn't actually SAY Plame's name & status but did confirm it.

Don't Federal Prosecutors dislike leaks from their office?

I know there are exceptions (Starr).

But by many accounts Fitzgerald is a straight shooter.

Could the info in the times be baloney ala Judith Aluminum-tubes-Miller.

3. Right--this is more Rovarian spin--
blame the PRESS--yeah, that's the ticket. The PRESS told Rove all about Plame, not the other way around. :eyes:

Why stop now when they've gotten away with it so many times before?

4. No, it is a Rove or other WH witness attorney. It isn't coming from
inside Fitzgerald's circle IMO.

I'll look for it in the NYT article when I get a chance but if you have it handy could you post it?:)

25. you're correct. here's quote showing I misread it. only reason I'm posting
this is to clarify my mistake.

Thanks!

The Justice Department appointed Patrick J. Fitzgerald, a top federal prosecutor in Chicago, to lead the inquiry. Mr. Rove said in an interview last year that he did not know the C.I.A. officer's name and did not leak it.The person who provided the information about Mr. Rove's conversation with Mr. Novak declined to be identified, citing requests by Mr. Fitzgerald that no one discuss the case. The person discussed the matter in the belief that Mr. Rove was truthful in saying he did not disclose Ms. Wilson's identity. On Oct. 1, 2003, Mr. Novak wrote another column in which he described calling two officials. The first source, who is unknown, was described by Mr. Novak as "no partisan gunslinger" who provided the outlines of the story. The second, confirming source, Mr. Novak wrote, responded, "Oh, you know about it."

30. You are probably on to something. . . . made to look as if fitzgerald leak
by what I am assuming is a Rove legal team member. Because Ken Mehlman, Rush etc have certainly jumped on this one as proving Karl Rove is innocent.

23. Found the facts here....looks like we could have a winner.....
Good in depth article on the man

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A55560-2005Feb1?language=printer

<snip>Fitzgerald is careful to be apolitical in his targets and his public life alike. He registered to vote as an Independent in New York, only to discover, when he began receiving fundraising calls, that Independent was a political party. He re-registered with no affiliation, as he did later in Chicago.

He spit fire last year when reporters asked whether the racketeering indictment of Muhammad Hamid Khalil Salah, a fundraiser for the Islamic militant group Hamas, was timed to boost President Bush's reelection campaign. The case was trumpeted first by Attorney General John Ashcroft.

"I am not running for an election. I'm not part of a political party," Fitzgerald said at the time. "The election is irrelevant to this case. The reason we brought this case now is we're ready to proceed."

17. According to Cooper, you can talk about your own testimony

Heard a statement by Cooper yesterday and he said you can talk about your own testimony, and said he intends to do exactly that in a future Time article.

BTW, almost EVERYTHING from the Clinton grand jury was leaked.

21. Andrea Mitchell just said that this is the story the WHITE HOUSE is
trying to put out.

She was asked on MSNBC's Connected what the WH reaction is to this new story, i.e. Novak asked Rove and Rove confirmed it, blah, blah. She responded by saying that "this is the story the White House is trying to put out".

This is from the Administration, not the Investigation.

26. This is being done by Rove or his operatives to get Fitz off the case
leaks being blamed on his office opens the door to his removal, and then a "soft, malleable" appointment to "look into this serious investigations."

The it falls off the face of the earth.

This has to be nipped in the bud right now, and Fitz has to do it quickly, IMO.

I mean I understand why the 'pubs are spinning for public opinion, but in the long run, isn't it the opinion of the special prosecutor and grand jury that they should be worrying about?

This story appeared in every freakin' local newspaper today qouting ONE ANNONYMOUS SOURCE. So how do you collaborate a story with ONE SOURCE? Ask the White House to verify?????? It's bullshit spin.
