Buzz: ROVE "burned his TX bridges" -- "Everybody's been ROVE-ed"
This fellow, KRONBERG, is an Austin reporter. He was being interviewed on the radio about TX legislative news. At the end, the host asked him whether ROVE is a topic among the legislators. He said that it was just buzz at lunch time or "when the drinks are being served," no dominating concern---meaning no concern FOR Rove. He went on to say that among the professional pols in Austin "Everybody, of course, KNOWS Karl, but Karl has pretty much burned all his bridges here. There's a saying, that at one time or another (in TX politics) EVERYBODY HAS BEEN ROVE-ed."

The host said, "Well, Harvey, you KNOW you're going to get a note for saying this." The dude said he wasn't worried.

There is no link, since it was heard on the radio. The link below is for the newsletter and requires subscription.

3. I've been saying this for a while now.
Rove's M.O. isn't one to inspire long-term relationships. I would bet there are plenty on either side of the aisle who would gladly sharpen a knife for Karl's back.

For the Secret Service: Knife in the back is a metaphor for getting back at someone who has done something nasty to you. It's not a literal thing.

5. Mine used to say "Give anyone enough rope,
and sooner or later, they'll hang themselves".

In my experience it sometimes takes a long time, but it holds pretty true.

8. You should rent the video "Bush's Brain"
It will tell you a lot about Karl Rove in Texas. There was one guy on there crying when talking about Rove. Also some guy ended up in prison. A lot of crooked shit went on there involving Rove.

9. Bush and Rove are two peas in a pod
they bring the worst out of each other, and unfortunately, everyone around them.

This is no surprise.

10. His enemies have been biding their time sharpening their political knives.
The same knives he used to stab them in the back. Turnabout is fair play. Or, as Rove would say, "fair game."

11. Rove's been playing tricks since he was a kid
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 10:10 PM by Lisa
Here are some examples.

back in 2000 ...
http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/2000-10-13/pols_feature8.html

"And anyone who thinks the Texas governorship is a weak office is going to learn a little something about the exercise of power by the master -- not George W. Bush, but his chief strategist Karl Rove.

They're keeping lists. Of every insult, no matter how small. Of every criticism, no matter how fair. Of every news clip. Of every joke, no matter how innocent. This reporter speaks from some experience concerning Rove and lists."

(snip)

"To engage the crowd, I related what had happened at the previous panel, introduced a gracious Mrs. McKinnon, and said that I was going to speak about Rove. "Before I start," I said, "I would like to know if Karl Rove's sister or wife is in the audience." It wasn't rip-roaringly funny, but it was at least amusing, and when the scattered laughter ended, I talked about Rove.

A week later, in my office in Austin, I received a one-sentence handwritten note.

Sir,

Not a sister or a wife, but my aunt, armed with a tape recorder.

It was from Rove."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uselections2004/story/0,13918,1165126,00.html

"As political dirty tricks go, it was minor league. Hundreds of the city's heavy drinkers and homeless turned up at a smart Dixon reception looking for free booze. Dixon was embarrassed but the plot failed to stop his momentum: he was elected state treasurer and went on to become a senator. But the teenager who stole his letterheads, Karl Rove, has gone even further."

If you do this kind of thing enough times, you'll inevitably run up against people who are just as smart (and have even longer memories) than you do! And there will be more of them than there are of you ...

They might not have retaliated so far because they were scared of his associates -- but when the tide turns, I predict that the people he burned will be lining up to skewer him. Live by the sword, etc.
