$20 Billion to Rebuild Iraq ??? Dems should just say "NO" ... |
|
i just saw Kent Conrad (D- N. Dakota) on C-Span2 discussing some of the details in the $20 billion request to "rebuild" Iraq ...
here are a few of the details he cited:
1. hire 500 people at $200,000. per year to investigate war crimes ...
2. build prisons at $50,000 per bed
3. pay $1 million dollars to the family of any Iraqi in the "witness protection program" ...
one might credibly argue that the U.S. has responsibilities in Iraq now that we have invaded that sovereign nation ... but supporting bush's request for funds that is being squandered on ill-advised projects and wasted into the cash registers at Halliburton should be voted down by every democrat ...
will the candidate you're supporting vote "YES" or "NO" ???

1. This is nothing less than a glorified money laundering operation |

I would support the $20 billion if it was given to the UN to use to rebuild and help Iraq. At least they have experience in helping nations rebuild.
$54 million to study computerizing the Iraqi post office when there is 60% unemployment in Iraq is obscene. Give the Iraqis that $54 million and let them use it to repair the buildings that were bombed. $400 million for 2 prisons. Iraq doesn't need fucking prisons. It needs jobs.
