How bad is Karl Rove’s treachery?

Three former CIA operatives, all Republicans, said in October 2003, “This has set a sickening precedent. The `senior administration officials’ who did this have warned all U.S. intelligence officers and the intelligence community that any one individual may be compromised if providing information or factual analysis the White House does not like.”

There is no doubt that Karl Rove acted out of political revenge to leak sensitive information about an administration critic’s wife and there is no way someone in his position did not either know or calculate the consequences of blowing the cover of a sensitive CIA covert operation.

To make this even plainer, recall what got him so driven to vengeance in the first place. It was former U.S. Ambassador Joseph Wilson’s public expose about lies and exaggerations the Bush White House used to deceive the American people into supporting an unprovoked U.S. invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

This suggests that Rove was a key architect of those lies. He ignored Ambassador Wilson’s CIA report of March 2002 that there was no sale of nuclear material by Niger to Iraq, and inserted the opposite claim in Bush’s January 2003 State of the Union message.

An interesting editorial by the owner and editior-in-chief of this Falls Church, VA newspaper.

Bush's 'chief architect': author of the deception used to encourage Americans to support an illegal war of aggression would, of course, trash a CIA operative to warn others never to contradict the neocon agenda with actual 'intelligence.'

Moran Statement on Karl Rove Leaking of CIA Operative

Washington, D.C., July 13th – Congressman Jim Moran, Virginia Democrat, took to the House floor today to express his views on senior White House official Karl Rove’s leaking to the media, the name of an undercover C.I.A. agent. Congressman Moran’s statement was delivered as follows:

“Mr. Speaker, truth, trust, and accountability should be the defining characteristics of the American presidency. President Bush's press secretary in October of 2003, Scott McClellan, told the White House press corps and through them the world at large, that Karl Rove and two other high level administration officials had assured him they were not involved in outing C.I.A. covert agent Valerie Plame. He said that unequivocally.

“Now we find that Karl Rove has sat back in timid silence while watching two reporters go through the costly, torturous experience of legal prosecution -- of legal prosecution to protect his identity.

“Mr. Speaker, the 41st President of the United States, George Bush, for whom the C.I.A. headquarters is named, said that what Karl Rove did was an act of treason.

“Mr. Speaker, it's time to hear from the President of the United States.”

4. How close and how connected is Falls Church to Washington, D.C.?

I seem to remember from visiting years ago that they're fairly close in proximity. Is it a city with commuters to D.C.?

Maybe I'm confusing it with Arlington :(

And that's probably from the westernmost edge. Falls Church is due west (and a little bit is due south) of Arlington.

That this article is coming out of this tiny free paper is interesting, as the city of Falls Church (as opposed to the parts of Fairfax County with a Falls Church mailing address, which include many apartment communities mainly populated by immigrants, minorities, and the desperately poor) tends to be more uppercrust -- 3BR Cape Cods go for about $500K. You'd think it would be more strongly Repuke.
