Miss Education of Jenna Bush Plays Fringe Fest, Aug 12-28

The Miss Education of Jenna Bush, a satire on the First Daughter's impending career as a teacher, will make its world premiere at this year's New York International Fringe Festival. Starring Melissa Rauch, the show will open at the The Village Theatre (158 Bleecker Street at Thompson) on August 12th to run through the 28th.

A Present Company production directed by Tom Wojtunik (A Watched Pot), The Miss Education of Jenna Bush was co-created by Rauch, Winston Beigel (The Buzz and the Bill) and Wojtunik, and co-written by Rauch and Beigel. The show is set on Labor Day, 2005. "At home in her Georgetown townhouse, the President's notoriously rebellious daughter prepares for her first day of teaching fourth graders . . . From underage drinking citations and (alleged) pot smoking to America’s public schools – 'Miss Jenna' rewrites history with a lesson plan you'll never forget," state production notes. The spoofy show will feature set design by Caitlin McCleery, costumes by David Withrow, lighting by George Gountas and sound by Aaron David Blank.

Rauch can be seen weekly on VH1’s hit series “Best Week Ever.” Recently named one of Back Stage’s “10 Comedy Best Bets of 2005,” she began her professional stand-up career when she was voted “Best College Comedian” on MTV’s “TRL” by Jamie Foxx and Carson Daly. She has toured with the critically acclaimed political satire troupe Gross National Product, having recently performed in their 2004 productions of Son of a Bush and Kerry the Vote.
