Coach Allegedly Paid Player to Hit Boy
PITTSBURGH - A T-ball coach allegedly paid one of his players $25 to hurt an 8-year-old mentally disabled teammate so he wouldn't have to put the boy in the game, police said Friday.

Mark R. Downs Jr., 27, of Dunbar, is accused of offering one of his players the money to hit the boy in the head with a baseball, police said. Witnesses told police Downs didn't want the boy to play in the game because of his disability.

Police said the boy was hit in the head and in the groin with a baseball just before a game, and did not play, police said.

"The coach was very competitive," state police Trooper Thomas B. Broadwater said. "He wanted to win."

Or don't give me anything at all, just five minutes alone with this asshole. I used to work with people with Down's, and they are some of the most loving, trusting, wonderful people on earth. This is just so wrong:grr:

15. These kids were 8!!
My dad coached high school sports for 40 years. When my own boys were young, he told me to be very careful about little league sports because he had known hundreds of gifted athletes in high school who were already burned out due to poor coaching and bad experiences as little leaguers.

9. It's the American Experience
All boiled down into a nutshell.

WIN!!!

WIN!!!!

WIN at any and all costs and fuck everyone and everything that gets in your way.

And these monsters will continue and thrive until the day that good people have had enough and start arranging "fortuitous accidents" to remove those from the earth who had no right to be here.

I am sick to death of reading of these creatures and knowing they will never face a sufficent punishment.

19. I see that too.
Is it "top --> down" or "bottom --> up", though?

Is our current admin evidence that our history as a Country has the coach's ilk as and ingredient, or is the coach a result of our more current USA myth?

29. Exactly!! "Winning is everything"
Edited on Sat Jul-16-05 06:13 PM by Pushed To The Left
This is what happens in a society where winning is everything, and those that lose are treated poorly. There is nothing wrong with wanting to win, but sometimes our society puts more importance on winning than how the game is played.

in most places, it's not. And there are plenty of attacks on peopole with disabilities, because of their disability, all the time. Just not usually against an 8-year-old on a i]sandlot ball field. :grr: :banghead: :nuke:
