Join this effort! Help Build a Workers' Movement
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 06:30 PM by deutsey
>Working America, a community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, is the
>fastest growing organization of working people in this country.
>Working America combines the people-power of the 13 million
>members of AFL-CIO unions with workers who don't have the
>benefit of a union membership. Together, we're working to defeat
>CAFTA, stop Social Security privatization, end the Wal-Marting
>of American jobs--and to build a powerful workers' movement.
>
>If you are not already a union member, please join Working
>America. Dues are completely voluntary--just $5 a year if you
>do choose to contribute. Become part of the union movement now
>by clicking this link:

>Working America has one goal: to build a better future for
>working families. Across the country, Working America organizers
>are knocking on doors and recruiting a new army for working
>families. Today, Working America is nearly 1 million members
>strong. With your help, we can meet our target of 2 million
>members by 2006.
>
>Working America has been working with the AFL-CIO and state and
>local labor movements to hold politicians and corporations
>accountable--on job exporting, Social Security, overtime pay,
>health care, the minimum wage and more. Shoulder to shoulder,
>union and Working America members are a powerful force--and as
>more of us work together, the stronger we are.
>
>It's easy to join Working America--you or the friends you invite
>to join this dynamic organization just need to click the mouse
>and let Working America know who you are. Working America is
>open to all working people and retirees who care about and are
>willing to take action on issues that affect working families
>such as job exporting, Social Security and retirement security,
>health care and the minimum wage--right alongside their union
>brothers and sisters.

1. Hey go for it Americans. I'm English so can't but i can't underestimate
the power of Unions. its raw people power. Its the only;y power you have against the corporations and against the big MNC's. Imagine if the whole of America was in a Union. You could fuck Bush right over.

Power comes from organisation. Organise and be powerful. Whatever profession you are in push for a union. It doesn't only cover work issues. Unions in this country have come out against compulsory ID cards meaning they probably won't happen.

Organise and become powerful

Viva la Union. Viva la people.

2. Thank you, bennywhale!
We in America have lost sight of the importance of banding together against economic interests not our own.

Thanks for the nudge.

5. And that's optional
I've been impressed with Working America.

They send you an action email about an issue that's of particular relevance to working people. They give you the background on the issue and, if you're registered with them, all you have to do is click a button, personalize a generic letter they've already written, and, poof, it goes out to your representatives.

It can't get any easier than that, and you don't even have to pay the 5 bucks if you don't want to.
