"Frasier" Wants to Run for Senate in California

Pretending he has no political views.

http://www.salon.com/ent/wire/2003/09/24/grammer/index.html

Kelsey Grammer says he might be interested in running for the U.S. Senate from California when he's finished with acting.

"If you have the good fortune to become wealthy doing what you love to do, what happens is you now have an obligation to give back in some way," Grammer said Monday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes."

...

Grammer, 48, kept his political views vague during his appearance on the cable news network.

"I would like to try to rid the country of the idea that it's the rich against the poor," he said.

1. I would be highly suspicious
of anyone who is making their political "debut" on Hannity and Colmes. I also look dubiously at this statement: "If you have the good fortune to become wealthy doing what you love to do, what happens is you now have an obligation to give back in some way,"
If that's the way he feels, then he should donate money and volunteer for organizations that help the needy. That way he can get an idea of what REAL people in America want and need.

11. "rid the country of the idea that it's the rich against the poor"
So he wants to lie to everyone and pretend the rich aren't attacking us. I guess the GOP is hiring yet another actor in California.

He's a repug.
Like all arrogant celebrities, he thinks that because he is a star he can govern. When did people stop believing in having knowledge and experience?

The only person with a nastier cocaine record than * wants to be in the Senate-and a long history of childish, petulant behavior to boot.
And, um, Kelsey, it IS rich against poor. In fact, it is rich against everybody else-and everybody else didn't start it.

6. whatever happened to the trend
of actors who wanted to be singers or athletes?

That at least was amusing. Kelsey didn't do such a good job with his own life but he thinks he's qualified to tell the rest of us how to live and what to believe. What a pompous ass.

She won by over 800,000 votes in 1998. Unless she finds herself in a major scandal she wins, although she will have to work for it.

8. Kelsey Grammar, another rich republican joining the fray
As far as acting goes, his supporting cast can run rings around him. He just OVER-acts. Oh yes, when Barbara Streisand or any other democrat says something pertaining to politics, republicans say that actors shouldn't be involved in politics. What happened? Now they are all over the place, what with Arnold...and his latest charrades. Yea, once you get filthy rich, you just join the republican party. :puke:

13. BULL!
>Grammer, 48, kept his political views vague during his appearance on the cable news network.

"I would like to try to rid the country of the idea that it's the rich against the poor," he said.<

Grammer is a big-time Republican, as well as having, shall we say, a "colorful" past.

Rant mode ON!

I have nothing against those who didn't grow up in a pew. God knows we've all made our fair share of blunders and stupid decisions. At the same time, though, I'd like to know why in the hell celebrities who suddenly decide to run for office get a hall pass for their less-than-chaste pasts, well-publicized nekkid pictures, etcetera, while someone like Bill Clinton is STILL hounded for a blow job!

Can you tell I'm a bit upset about this?

It is ASTONISHING to me that someone like Kelsey Grammer can think he can paint himself as having no views, when it's been well-documented in the press over the years that he is a Pug to the tenth power.

Does he think we're all stupid?

GOD!

Julie

Rant mode off...

14. He'll fit right in with all the other drug abusers
I guess being a cocaine addict is the fashionable republican addiction of choice...alcoholism is just so "last century"

I'll never forget watching them pry Grammer's Viper off my neighbors landscaping and the sixty-two police cars parked in his driveway awaiting his consciousness so they could cart him away.....

16. His show sucks
I loved his character on Cheers, as sort of the rough intellectual at the end of the bar. In Frasier, he's just a smug, prissy little rich snob. I hate that show really. Niles can be funny at times, but I just can't stand Frasier. He never drinks beer like horse anymore, just goes to wine tastings and shit like that.

No doubt, he's in with the Rethugs, thick as thieves.

Jeez, doesn't anyone in the media remember Kelsey's substance abuse, and DUIs -- he had to clear brush near the freeway on a road crew as community service "punishment" for a few days in the late 1980s, I think it was.
