An Open Letter to Mr. Rush Limbaugh
Dear Mr. Limbaugh:

It's come to my attention that you, or your staff, is currently reading Democratic Underground for information on General Clark. We've got plenty of information, plus supporting research and links, on General Clark, the other Democratic candidates, and most of the issues that concern Americans today. I also have an idea for you.

Mr. Limbaugh, you have said on your program many times that you are happy to take calls from liberals. Interestingly enough, Mr. Limbaugh, those same liberals seem to get dumped off the phone, muted during your responses to their statements, or otherwise interrupted before they have an opportunity for true dialogue with you.

If you believe that you offer truth for all Americans, if you have the courage of your convictions, I invite you to do the following: Debate a leading Democrat in a neutral location, on issues that interest all Americans -- the economy, the war in Iraq, the fact that unemployment continues to rise with no end in sight -- and broadcast it live on your show. No dump buttons. No muting. No screeners. If you'd like, I'm sure that millions would tune in to see it on pay-per-view, if you're worried about sponsorship.

Here's a short list of possible debate opponents for your consideration. I'm sure that those on Democratic Underground would be thrilled to add to it as well.

Mike Malloy (talk radio personality)
Randi Rhodes (talk radio personality)
Joe Conason (author, pundit)
Gene Lyons (author, pundit)
Molly Ivins (author, pundit, and from George W. Bush's home state.)

Really, Mr. Limbaugh, with your sparkling command of the English language, your inexhaustible store of information on all things conservative, and the opportunity to speak freely, how could such a great idea go to waste?

If there is anything I could possibly do to assist you in bringing this event to the American people, please let me know. They deserve to know the truth, don't they?

Very truly yours,
Julie

Kudos!

Are you going to publish or send it by e-mail to his denseness?

Why not throw Franken in the mix? :D

3. P.S.- You don't know sh!t about football
Pass that along to your Limberballs boss! And in case any ESPN people visit, as long as you have Rush, your show will suck to the masses.

Great letter though.

7. Thanks, everyone!
Okay, let's have some other possible opponents for Mr. Limbaugh.

I'm sure his staff will appreciate the ideas, right?

How about Sidney Blumenthal? I'll bet that Al Gore might have a free couple of hours on a weekend. Could any of you imagine the ratings in a Bill Clinton/Rush Limbaugh debate?

I'm not kidding: I'd pay to see it.

Julie

10. Lordy
I would love to hear Limbaugh debate Clinton. Clinton would probably charm him while he proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Limbaugh has no idea what he's talking about.

21. Bernie Ward
I believe they would be in the same weight class, too. My money would be on Brother Bernie winning with a KO. Hands down, or is that with one hand tied behind his back, Bernie Ward would clean the clown's clock and that's the reason we will never see Lintball in any type of debate.

9. The liberal list you provide.....
is insufficient, substitute Paul Begala, Al Franken, or even a Dem politician... and it would be more on target.

11. Rush Limbaugh is on the air for one purpose only:
To make money by dividing and frightening people. He is not on to inform, to entertain, or to do anything else that is useful. A font of misinformation and bigotry, he is there to demonize certain groups of people and to appeal to the worst in all of us.

He has made one heck of a lot of money doing this at the expense of ordinary Americans who think they are learning something when they listen to his program. Instead, what they are assimilating is nothing but perpetual ignorance.

Perhaps one day he will be able to contribute something of some worth to society. I hope so, for everyone's sake--especially his.

Would be to suffer a sudden and fatal heart attack on his show while saying, "and may God strike me down if I have ever lied before!"

12. Even better
Challenge him to do it Pay-per-View on National Television! I'm sure he would LOVE the attention that would give him. I know I would pay good money to see that. Also, I think considering the kind of crap that Limpdick passed around about Wesley, maybe HE should take him on. That would be fun!

15. Nice, but ultimately futile
Rash Lardbutt doesn't "debate" anyone or anything that isn't inanimate. He does a great job on photographs, newspaper columns, snatches of audiotape or videotape, but when the object of his tirades has the ability to answer back, he folds faster than Superman on laundry day.

Lardbutt also doesn't venture outside the confines of his studio for any give-and-take. If he doesn't have an army of producers and total control over the microphones, cameras, lighting and production, he doesn't play.

16. Poor Poor Julie
Your mistake is to think that Rush has an interest in the truth. He has a forumula for popular appeal to a narrow segment of the population. That's all he's interested and it has nothing to do with the truth.

On the other hand, it shouldn't take you too long to spit that question out on the air. Why don't you call him and see what feeble excuses he makes. Why not suggest that he invite one of the democratic candidates on his show -- now that would be interesing. Could you imagine Rush vs. Sharpton?

23. Probably not
At the same time, though, don't you agree that it's good for his staff to see that a debate would be a ratings bonanza?

Let's be polite to our guests, and suggest a few more names. How about, ohhhhh, lemme see here: Our own Will Pitt?

24. Very nice. But, of course he's going to decline...
because he can't even debate Michael Irvin, much less Mike Malloy!

Hmm, let's trade him Mike Malloy and Molly Ivins for Michael Irvin.

Mike & Ivins = Michael Irvin.

That's way too eerie.

Hey, where are those conspiracy theorists when you need them?

28. Buy the domain NOW!
openlettertorushlimbaugh.com is still available. Somebody should buy this one and set this letter up there. Have a section for people to sign who would be interested in a pay-per-view of this. Once you get enough sigs, send it off to some of the media. Maybe draw more attention to the fallacies of what he is.

32. What an excellent letter, Julie
But you know that he lacks the courage or the honesty to ever consider it. His only purpose is money, propaganda and the scapegoating of liberals, et al.

Could you just imagine him and Conason?

Then again I would pay money to watch Bartcop make him stroke out.

Sweet justice.
