Why aren't the Repubs attacking Fitzgerald yet?
From what I've seen so far, they seem to be actually giving him some respect and aren't trying to smear him?

What's the strategy behind this?

2. WSJ opinion Page
(I've seen similar stuff out there too. . .)

<snip>

If there's any scandal at all here, it is that this entire episode has been allowed to waste so much government time and media attention, not to mention inspire a "special counsel" probe. The Bush Administration is also guilty on this count, since it went along with the appointment of prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald in an election year in order to punt the issue down the road. But now Mr. Fitzgerald has become an unguided missile, holding reporters in contempt for not disclosing their sources even as it becomes clearer all the time that no underlying crime was at issue.

5. That's it.
They haven't attacked him directly -- yet -- but they try to discredit his investigation.

6. I don't BELIEVE they are taking the "no crime" approach.
That's so likely to explode. I'm really suprised they aren't taking the "it was a crime but Karl Rove didn't know and we didn't do it" approach.

11. Exactly.
The defense now says that Rove passed the word on not knowing that she was undercover at all...So he stepped in the turd, but didn't leak the turd. Its a much stronger defense than what these moron shills are babbling about, they are going to look like fools.

3. The repubs are so corrupt that they are afraid he will go after any
one of them that try to trash him. They all have skeletons in there closet.

I bet they do not want him looking into their own misdeeds, so why would they want to draw his attention to them.

From what I have seen and heard so far, he is a Bulldog, I hope.

4. They probably don't
want to risk getting him angry. Especially since Rove, the main 'architect' of smear campaigns is a witness, or subject of the investigation, he, Rove, is probably waiting until after the indictments before smearing him.

12. Well, they're doing a piss poor job ot it.............
all of these "leaks" of testimony at the end of the week trying to paint St. KKKarl as "the victim" in this case can't be sitting too well with him.
Everything was pretty quiet until Rove's name came out, then all hell broke loose with leaks and innuendo. I don't imagine he's happy with that at all and will only serve to make him more meticulous in his investigation.
As to why they haven't trashed him yet, they haven't had to. They're still attacking Wilson but that road seems to be going nowhere now. IT WILL COME! The farther this bunch of criminals are backed into a corner, they'll smear Fitz and anyone else that gets in their way. It's coming, believe me, it's coming.

7. It gives the appearance that they think this is a tempest in a teacup
This is always a good approach in the beginning. Saying nothing doesn't fan the flames and it doesn't tie anyone to a talking point that will change depending on whether there are indictments.

10. You must not be watching Lou Dobbs
Dobbs doesn't attack Fitzgerald directly but has been belittling his investigation for weeks now. Two years long, no indictments, locked "poor" Judy Miller up, etc. I don't remember Dobbs saying the same shit about the Whitewater investigation.

because of economic reasons.

In other words, thanks to W stealing from the middle class and giving to the rich, I can no longer afford anything that is not necessary for my survival.

On Edit: Wasn't it Henry Ford who said "I need to pay my employees enough so they can buy the cars I make."

15. When will their "Black Saturday" come..........
when the bush White House fires the special prosecutor and sets up their own kangaroo court? I expect they'll follow the same course that took Nixon over the falls, they don't have much of a choice.

17. Because he keeps himself out of the limelight
this fellow is no Ken Starr, most people don't even know what Fitzgerald looks like. Plus he's a Republican, so the freepers couldn't go after him when this whole thing started. They had to wait to see which way he was going to go with this and now it's too late.

19. I read somewhere around here
that he was and that was one of the reasons the DOJ picked him. When Ashcroft had to recuse himself, his 2nd in command (name?), who is good friends with Fitzgerald, made the decision. I would assume he would pick a REP, or a least apolitical, for a number of apparent reasons. It would be interesting to see his voter registration because that is the kind of info that can be easily confirmed.
