Caught Again? Cooper Corrects A Rove Lie For The Grand Jury
Edited on Sun Jul-17-05 12:13 PM by writes2000
Check out Daily Kos.

You know that BIG Republican talking point that when Cooper called Rove, they had a long chat about welfare reform? They claim that Wilson only came up at the end of the call?

Cooper says that is NOT how he remembers it. And it sounds like the Grand Jury was VERY curious about the difference between Cooper's memory and Rove's version.

http://www.dailykos.com

From Cooper:

"A surprising line of questioning had to do with, of all things, welfare reform. The prosecutor asked if I had ever called Mr. Rove about the topic of welfare reform. Just the day before my grand jury testimony Rove's lawyer, Robert Luskin, had told journalists that when I telephoned Rove that July, it was about welfare reform and that I suddenly switched topics to the Wilson matter. After my grand jury appearance, I did go back and review my e-mails from that week, and it seems as if I was, at the beginning of the week, hoping to publish an article in TIME on lessons of the 1996 welfare-reform law, but the article got put aside, as often happens when news overtakes story plans. My welfare-reform story ran as a short item two months later, and I was asked about it extensively. To me this suggested that Rove may have testified that we had talked about welfare reform, and indeed earlier in the week, I may have left a message with his office asking if I could talk to him about welfare reform. But I can't find any record of talking about it with him on July 11, and I don't recall doing so."

1. yes, but
I noticed the same thing. But let's hope they have more on Rove (and on the whole case) than this.

Think about it--

Rove: We talked about welfare reform.

Cooper: I don't remember talking about welfare reform.

Rove: Indictment for perjury.

If this is *all* that they have in this case, to me it will be a big disappointment.

But maybe they can use it to get to the real culprits.

3. Oh, they have ALOT more. This just shows how Rove continues to lie...
To protect himself.

When Cooper told Rove's office he was writing a story on Wilson, they IMMEDIATELY put Rove on the phone. There was no chatting on welfare reform. And Rove was tricked into talking about it.

Rove got on the phone KNOWING that the subject was Wilson.

Rove and the Republican talking points are LIES.

5. Probably perjury but this also shows that Rove INTENTIONALLY leaked Plame
He knew what the topic was before he got on the phone. He leaked Plame being CIA and then said "I've said too much already."

That is a MUCH different from the picture that the Repubs have been drawing.
