When I think of it, it chaps my ass that Judith Miller is still sitting in jail. I imagine she's planning her book deal as we speak and that she will one day make millions off of this martyr schtick... and I'm sure they don't have her in the pen with murderers....but I cannot believe she has chosen to sit in jail in place of some POS Bush official who used her (and the press she claims to be defending) to commit a crime. HE should be sitting in jail, not her.

I feel somewhat badly for her--but she has chosen it. And for what?
How long is she going to sit there?

1. Judy's protecting criminals, IMHO....
...not to mention, probably for a great book deal.

I have NO empathy. Hey, and I'm a bleeding heart liberal too:patriot:

11. they did not handcuff her
I took this from a screen caption from my tv as she was walking to the cop car. I have some other captions of her in the car but you could not see her face... No cuffs, but definitely off to the pokey....

no cuffs & police, no perpwalk. no cop on either side, no frogmarch.

Not that it's even worth arguing about, really. Who wouldn't want to see Miller in chains, being dragged away by police?

there are many pictures available of Miller in the car, face visibly smiling on yahoo.

3. If she is, in reality, in jail.
They can bring someone through the front door and sneak them out the back.
See how paranoid this administration has got me.

4. She can leave jail anytime she wants
it's not like she's in jail in the same way that some kid, who couldn't afford a pricey beltway lawyer, is in jail for having a little bag of weed.

Anytime she decides to comply with the law and the court's ruling and fess up her source she can leave that jail cell.

5. Remember,
She's PROTECTING that POS Bush official.

That's why she's in jail. Not because she is being used.

Don't be fooled.

6. Another example of great minds thinking alike!
Edited on Sun Jul-17-05 05:25 PM by rocknation
I couldn't agree more, as I posted on this DU thread yesterday. I say that Miller doesn't owe the leaker squat, because he or she tried to solicit her assistance in commiting a crime by writing about Plame. She must have a different motive in choosing jail--fear of directly implicating Bush or Cheney, most likely.

13. Via Operation Mockingbird, an illegal propaganda program
operated domestically by the CIA. If THAT ever opens up, then the Armstrong Williams, Jeff Gannon, et als become immediately understandable.

This Fitzgerald grand jury can give Miller immunity and demand her testimony on that or...

There are other ways to skin a cat.

9. foolish
I suppose I could be full of schadenfreude (joy in the misfortune of others), since Miller deserves to be in jail (or, at the very least, drummed out of her profession and regarded as a pariah) for other reasons: for knowingly perpetrating the WMD lie used to justify the illegal and ultimately genocidal invasion of Iraq.

But that's not how I feel. Miller is in prison for the wrong reasons. You may say she's trying to protect criminals, but the principle remains: she is a journalist trying to protect anonymous sources.

A precedent is being established that the U.S. can jail a journalist for not revealing sources.

Let's talk again in a year about this. When the next journalist is jailed, I guarantee you it will be a liberal or leftist and everyone here will be in an uproar at this attack on freedom of the press. Which the Miller precedent is making possible.

15. I hear that---however...
Miller is not protecting a whistleblower and the press in this case was part of the crime. The source was not serving the public interest in revealing information--the source was revealing information for political/selfish purposes. That's a huge difference in my mind.

If a liberal reporter did the same thing, it wouldn't be cool. And the liberal reporter would also be stupid to sit in there for the source.

14. On the other hand,
the POS in the Bush administration could give her permission to talk and she could walk. How rotten is it to allow another person sit in the slammer because of your loose lips? While I agree with everything already posted, I have to also think she's trying to stand for something, even if it protects a miserable scumbag.
