5. I dunno Walt
This is grand jury testimony. And Cooper was much more noncommittal than others (like Clarke frinstance).

25. Not true at all.
Cooper indicated to Russert that he told the grand jury about "other sources" in the White House. What Clarke did was nice, but it wasn't in the context of a legal case that posed any risk to the White House. What Cooper did is in absolutely no sense "noncommittal."

4. They spent all last week...
... blaming the victim, so they might as well go after Cooper this week (although he's not exactly the victim in this--anyone who automatically gives Karl Rove confidentiality either ought to have his head examined, or should admit complicity in spreading the White House's propaganda).

But, yeah, makes sense. They'll try to cut him down to size on two fronts--not standing up for First Amendment rights (as if the Republican Party gives a shit about those) and for writing about his testimony afterwards. Then there will be, a day or two later, some snide suggestions that he was the one that actually told Rove and that he committed perjury to protect himself.

We just have to sit back and watch it unfold.

6. They'll tar Cooper for saying he got Rove's blessing...
When it appears cooper's lawyer got Rove's shill Luskin's blessing.

Pparsing, more parsing, and parsing of the parsing -- all in the name of attacking Rove's political enemies. We want justice -- frogmarch the fat bastard NOW!

You've pointed out the most damning indictment of the press
that they are not only willing but eager to not merely aid and abet Rove's lies but let him carry out his smears in total anonymity. None of what has befallen the United States since November 2000 could have happened without the complicity of the corporate media.

7. Each New Spin Bounces Against A Past One
Look at all the compromising statements already out there. David Brock's head must be in hyper spin. Either Valerie Plame is some evil Hillary-plant (yep, Freeper post) that ran some inside CIA job to get Bunnypants or she's a desk jockey who had a bad case of post partum depression. Sheesh.

The Fitzgerald case remains tight and focused and that's what's driving these goons wild right now. They know something bad is happening behind those closed doors and they don't know what it is, so they're already putting up "defenses" so when the shit hits the fan, hopefully one will be ready to grab like a safety net. Thing is, this time this trick won't work.

Watching Melmann this morning, I swore I was seeing Captain Queeg.

Cheers...

8. Notice they havent gone after Fitzgerald.

They've gone after Wilson and everyone else who crossed them, but in case I missed it they havent gone after Fitzgerald.

That seems curious.

When Delay was in a criminal investigation they attacked the hell out of the prosecutor.

Are they holding the Fitzgerald attack for the next round? Is there another reason?

11. If he indicts: It'll be Pat "Pol Pot" Fitzgerald.
If not, it'll be "See. We told you so. Isn't Fitz the fairest chap in the land?"

In Delay's case they knew he was guilty so they went right to attacking the prosecutor.

Yeah, and Delay is actually small fry compared to the top group we are talking about.

We know they are guilty as sin.

You make some good points, and thats their exact MO on spin when something gets to a prosecutor.

But to follow your remarks it would be to guess that they think the fix is in??

19. Because he was appointed
by Ashcroft's DOJ. They couldn't attack him until he starts to get close to issuing indictments against them and then it will be too late. Plus, like Howard Dean this guy is squeaky clean and he doesn't have a tendency to yell on top of his lungs.

32. I didn't say that wasn't going to happen, but I can almost quote what
Limbaugh will say:

"In a desperate attempt to keep the DEAD Karl Rove story alive, Matthew Cooper went on Meet the Press with Democratic Shill, Tim Russert, to blow more steam into the story and keep it alive. Folks, these people are rabid and they are not going to let it go! We have to pound and pound and pound. the FACT is, Wilson outted his wife HIMSELF!"

20. Yep!
The neocon/extreme right machine is going to start increasing the viciousness of the attacks in general, and on Matt Cooper specifically. I could see a level of anxiety in his face when he talked to Tim Russert yesterday that indicated to me that he realizes he has crossed powerful people. That the "other sources" he hinted at are feeling the need to utterly destroy him would seem a good bet.

Here's the thread I posted about that WJ caller referenced above:

I saw this meme being worked on in Freeperland last night. Sure enough, already two calls on WJ this morning, and I suspect I'll be hearing it in my car on hate radio a little later.

This gets so easy to predict.

34. OK...What's The Dirt On Fitzgerald?
That's gotta be already in the can as well.

Watching Mehlmann squirm yesterday on MTP when Timmy asked him if he'd support Fitzgerald if an indictment came down was precious. Podesta next to him couldn't believe he couldn't say a simple "yes". So you know the slime's already set.

I'm still looking to see if I find that first meme surfacing...kinda like when looking for the first storm clouds brewing in Hurricane alley.

Cheers!

36. Fitzgerald is going to be a hard man to break
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 08:53 AM by Walt Starr
He's the man who got Gotti.

He successfully prosecuted the 1993 WTC bombers.

He broke up the Licenses for Bribes scandal in Illinois.

He's currently breaking up the cronieism and corruption in the Daley machine.

This man is so clean he squeaks when he walks.

38. What's That From Stopping Them
We'll soon get to see his handiwork on the Ryan mess here in Chicago. Peter Fitzgerald has to be laughing his butt off right now.

This Grunwald thing was amusing since it was so obvious for so long. You never heard her name mentioned while Cooper kept his yap shut. When he finally talks, boom, there it is.

As the old saying goes, "you coulda seen that coming up Broadway".

But still...I'm certain they'll start some rumor floating...or try even jury nulification. We're in for some interesting times indeed.
