Weekend of slaughter propels Iraq towards all-out civil war
IRAQ is slipping into all-out civil war, a Shia leader declared yesterday, as a devastating onslaught of suicide bombers slaughtered more than 150 people, most of them Shias, around the capital at the weekend.

They're finally calling it a civil war.

2. why on earth would the Sunni community want to spark
a civil war? what would they have to gain, they couldn't win and would end up with a tiny nation squashed between Shia Iraq and some kind of weird Kurdish non-country in the North (statehood for Kurds isn't going to happen anytime soon - too many noses would be put out of joint by that)

while I accept that I really know nothing about what's happening in Iraq and can only go on what I read, I've never understood why the Sunni community would do this, I don't dispute that the resistance has targetted fellow Iraqis but I just don't see their aims as being a civil war - unless they're really stupid and or dellusional

3. With 50 Shia Clerics Brawling...
It's a fairly safe bet that it's NOT Sunni's doing the killing that they're being accused of doing.

But remember, the Sunni held the upper hand in Iraq long enough that accusing them of killing the casualties of Shia-on-Shia disputes is GOING to be accepted by enough people to ignite a full-scale civil war.

Which is exactly what the five or six strongest Shia clerics want to cause now, while they're at their strongest.

Ain't Liberation grand?

So it's happy hunting all around.
