Anybody else notice the increasing use of the word "extremism?"
I am hearing it more and more lately from what little of the Corporate Media that I still consume. It is being used where "terrorism" used to appear.

It's a subtle shift, about as subtle as when the CM and/or the White House (hard to tell the difference these days) would end one sentence with "9/11" and begin the next one with "Saddam Hussein."

People who oppose the war in Iraq Nam could be viewed as extremists. People who oppose the PATRIOT Act could be viewed as extremists. This website could be viewed as a gathering place for extremists.

Extremism. It's the new Terra.

1. Turn it around
Extreme greed

Extreme hatred of the Constitution

Extreme need to destroy and control other nations

Extreme vindictiveness

Extreme hijacking of the ballot

on and on

The extremists are the Repukes, and they are also extremely stupid.

4. Good morning, bhg! I take your point,
but we all know that the Pugs paint us as doing those things about which they wrote the book, no?

2. Interesting point.
When the right-wingers are on shows discussing Plame, etc, they now say that anyone who questions the administration's lies "sounds like the extremist democrats from Move On."

This is one of the reasons that I think DU should take out a full-page ad in the Sunday New York Times. Let's call for impeachment hearings, in a rational way. Let's define the left, rather than allowing the weasals and jackals on the right define us.

5. Thank you, H2O Man
I see it's spreading, thanks to the Mighty Wurlitzer. "Extremist Democrats," indeed!

8. It is part of
an organized attempt to marginalize those who question these criminals. The media used to attempt to do the same, by calling men like Malcolm X and Martin Luther King "extremists." I'll have to look through some of my books this afternoon to find their responses. This is an important thread, and I hope others will recommend it, so that more will read & participate on it. (I think it's extremely important we do!)

11. The DU thread that defines the left and it's goals, prior to the
NYT ad, would be a doozy.

7. And soon to be followed by the "War On Extremism?"
If you don't support Dear Leader, you're giving Aid and Comfort to The Extremists. Yeah, it's got a nice, Orwellian ring to it!

9. I feel that the EXTREMIST RW Christian Fundamentalists who are

populating, comprising, and advising the Bush Administration *are* terrorists.

Maybe it's a case of "It takes one to know one...", I dunno. I do know this: Whenever we refer to the Christian Fundamentalists in this country we should call them "Extremist", fom now on. You can bet if that meme catches on, they "War on Extremism" will be named something else...
