"I would like this to end as quickly as possible." (Press Conference)
Final Score:

97 Words (not including the stuttering);
7.5 Lies;
1.5 Truths;
1 Long String of Babbling Nonsense

1st Question from "Terry": Mr. President, you said you don't want to talk about an on-going investigation, so I'd like to ask you regardless of whether a crime was committed, do you still intend to fire anyone found to be involved in the CIA leak case, and are you displeased that Karl Rove told a reporter that Ambassador Joe Wilson's wife worked for the agency on WMD issues?"

Lie: "WE have a serious ongoing investigation here." (No, YOU aren't involved in it, which is why there is hope something may be accomplished.)

Lie: "Its being played out in the press." (No, the press is scrambling for scraps, because the Grand Jury has managed to keep most stuff secret. Ha ha!)

Half-Lie: "I think its best that people wait until the investigation is complete before you jump to conclusions." (Because by then I'm praying you will all have forgotten about this based on whatever new crisis I can help concoct.)

Lie: "I will do so as well." (I already know the truth, and it ain't pretty. Treason is such an ugly word!)

Lie: "I don't know all the facts." (Yes, you do.)

Lie: "I want to know all the facts." (No, you don't.)

Pure Nonsense: "The best place for the facts to be done is by somebody who is spending time investigating it." (Babbling incoherency -- who the hell knows what he's talking about here?)

Truth: "I would like this to end as quickly as possible" --

Lie: "-- so we know the facts." (No, you don't LIKE the facts.)

Lie: "And if someone committed a crime, they will no longer work in my administration." (Liar; they've been working for you for the last two years.)

1. "The best place" line is one for the books
"The best place for the facts to be done is by somebody who is spending time investigating it."

(He is obviously channeling alien beings, and it would be wise to search for the hidden message).

9. By Jove, I think you have it!
* has been replaced by a hideous shape shifting alien which is masquerading as the President. It perfectly explains so much!

12. When was the last time the facts were done around here, anyway?
(Unless by "done" he really means "rubbed out.")

14. "Done" could mean manufactured.
Matt could suddenly have different memories of the event and say he misspoke in his first testamony.

Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 10:58 AM by RobertSeattle
Mr President, when did you find out that Karl Rove leaked the Plame's identity to the Press, and let me remind you that Commandment regarding "thou shalt not bear false witness"...

21. The reporters were only allowed "two questions" --
The first question was what you saw, while the second was on the Supreme Court Nomination -- the reporter said something to the effect of "Now that you're down to the short list, are you going to discuss it with Congress so you can avoid a confirmation battle?" to which Shrub said, "Wow! Let me behave like a complete asshole in front of the Indian Prime Minister, AND the rest of the world by making 'jokes' about how come YOU KNOW SO MUCH, YOU DISGUSTING LITTLE REPORTER!" That boy (Shrub) was NOT raised right....:(

6. "if someone committed a crime, they will no longer
work in my administration". Which in layman's terms means..."I already know the outcome and everyone gets off scott free." He and Rove are just looking too smug these days. Like the cat who ate the mouse. Call me jaded but what keeps going through my head is the 9/11 investigation. Which was such a farce!

11. And notice what he's NOT saying
He's not saying, "I believe Karl is innocent and support him fully".

He's not saying he talked to Karl about it and believes Karl is being unfairly targeted.

I believe Bush is leaving himself some wiggle room for the eventual firing (or rather, resignation) of Rove after those troublesome facts come out.

18. President Chimpy
"The best place for the facts to be done is by somebody who is spending time investigating it."

Mr. Bush is used to having the facts "done" by someone who has no time for the truth. I love this line. He's fixing the facts.

22. Notice now it's not "if they leaked" but "if a crime was committed".
He earlier said if someone in his administration leaked the info they'd be fired.

Now it's if a crime was committed, raising the bar and delaying the response.

26. And this discrepancy was pointed out on CBS news, very early in the AM.
In fact, the phrase "raising the bar" was used.

30. "WE have a serious ongoing investigation here."
This line was met with an almost raucus explosion of laughter by those in the room. I wondered about that - at first it made me happy, because I interpreted it as though Bush was loosing all respect with the Press corps and that they were actually laughing in his face. Then I had second thoughts and wondered if it was an inside joke of Bush belittling the investigation that he believes nothing will come of and that the insiders were laughing WITH him (kind of along the lines of "now where did I put those WMD's" at the press dinner.

So - were they laughing At him, or With him?
