John Stossel: "Liberal Media" wasn't "Open-Minded"
...about his book. Boo fucking Hoo, Johnny!

<...> Conservative hosts had me on their programs even though some loathed my hard-core libertarian ideas. Maybe it's because conservatives in media are used to people disagreeing with them. In fact, if they live in New York City, they are used to liberals shrieking at them. Few conservatives wanted to spend much time debating drug prohibition (Sean Hannity was a rare exception), but at least they heard me out.

I had thought liberal shows would have me on their programs to trash my arguments. I looked forward to a spirited debate. But debate rarely happened. Nearly every media invitation came from people who already shared my belief in the free market. Those who didn't, didn't want to talk about it. <...>

I thought I'd have a shot at a fair debate with Al Franken because we're acquaintances; our kids went to school together. No such luck. He invited me to his studio, but he barely let me make an argument; instead he ranted about a "lie" on page 305. <...> link

1. "Free Markets" are as regulated as anything, Johnny Socko.
Not to mention whoever supports the cockamamie theory that the "rising tide lifts all boats" is already at higher ground. The rest of us think it's boolshite.

Stossel is SUCH a Reich-wing tool. I couldn't even stomach 80 pages of his "book". Puke-ing pablum ad nauseum.

2. I'd like to box his ears
I used to think he was a good investigative journalist back when he was at 20/20.

Now.... not so much :grr:

4. I read that article

Kind of a crybaby article really. "Nobody wanted to discuss my book" seems to be short hand for "people didn't agree with my book."

5. Maybe Franken Asked Him About A Lie Because It Really Was?
He and Bernie Goldberg should have one hell of a pity party.

I know little of this oxygen thief any more than the posts here and other sites of how he's a tool for the corporates masquerading as a "liberatarian".

Of course he fools the wingnuts...he plays the same silly games they do and beats up on the same strawmen. Those aren't "debates" or "interviews"...they're infomercials.

Problem people like Franken and Jon Stewart so destroy these people to their faces, they never know what hit them.

7. Stossel is a proven liar and has NO journalistic credibility.
Remember he had to publicly apologize on 20/20 for lying his ass off in that Organic Food piece he did?

God only knows how much other stuff he lied about and didn't get caught.

Why would anyone care what he wrote in a book, much less want to debate him on it?

8. Franken exposed Stossel as the lying creep that he is.
He called Stossel out on a hell of alot more than "page 305". He walked through a laundry list of intentionally deceptive, Fox News-style arguments Stossel has made; everything from rhetorical sleight of hand to outright lying.

John Stossel is such a hack. He's Sean Hannity doing a reporter imitation.

How about distortions, half truths and LIES. It's what we do.

11. Oh wah
What a wah-baby Stossel is. The lack of outreach over his book couldn't have anything to do with the fact that he doesn't know the first thing about objective analysis or research. Oh no.

Boo fucking hoo.

13. It isn't just your book, Stossel. You're just plain boring.
Back when I watched TV, I tended to skip 20/20 features by Stossel. He always struck me as a little too much in love with himself.
