US police pursue girl over stone


An 11-year-old girl who threw a stone at a group of boys pelting her with water balloons is being prosecuted on serious assault charges in California.

Maribel Cuevas was arrested in April in a police operation which involved three police cars and a helicopter.

She has since spent five days in detention, in which she was granted one 30 minute visit by her parents, and has spent a month under house arrest.

Police say they had to investigate as the boy who was hit by the stone she threw suffered a deep gash to his head and needed hospital treatment.

He has reportedly acknowledged to officers that he started the fight in late April.

2. I called Fresno Chief o police #, from earlier post....they just listened.

Apparently the FELONY ASSAULT aspect and the PUSH TO THE GROUND/KNEE IN THE BACK handcuffing of Maribel is a touchy subject with the chief.
That's not my garden variety arrest tactic. Speak truth to Power.

6. I'm waiting for all the cops are picked on and maligned

crowd to show up now. Law enforcement is out of control now. My husband was on the receiving end of some of this type of justice--picked up in Milwaukee for reasons yet unknown when we were there visiting his brother. He reported for a court appearance, only to have the judge tell him there were no charges and to receive apologies from the Judge and the CA on behalf of the court and law enforcement. I have no patience for this crap.

9. when i was a child (not more, not less than the girl in this story)

and being pushed on the swing by my, 7 years older than i am, brother; another neighbor kid threw a rock from his side of the fence at me and hit me on the head.

All they got back were some insults from my brother who was still standing on our side of the fence--and perhaps, but i may even be adding this on to the real story, a talking to from their parents after my parents may have said something to their parents... but, the possibility is that my parents thought of it as "kids' stuff" and stayed out of it all completely.

now: was the boy in the story also a spanish speaking boy?

was maribel walking by a ritzier neighborhood and were the boys being mean due to class/culture/ethnic differences?

were the boys little cracker heads out to get a brownie?

for throwing a rock at some boys who were ganging up on her and her much younger sibling and pelting them with water balloons. She and her sibling were being physically assaulted and she merely defended herself and him.
