I will pose a question I have not heard ANYONE ask re Rove:
Early on, Scot McClellan stated that he had gone to Rove, Libby and I think Elliot Abrams and had asked of them himself if they had been involved in the leak and he had been assured that they had nothing to do with it- which he then communicated to one and all via a press conference.

WHY DID HE ASK THOSE THREE???? If the White House really didn't have any idea whatsoever as to who had done the leaking, you would think that they or Scot would have asked many more people the same question. So, someone needs to ask Scott how he decided that these three were the ones that needed the special one on one questioning.
Or, if there were others, what did they say?

1. Proving Rove is a liar
He had something to do with it, or the investigation wouldn't have gone this far.

3. Rove and Libby were named as potential sources right away
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 07:00 PM by imenja
so the press likely asked about them in particular. I'm not sure why Abrahms was named, other than he's a SOB capable of anything, as he made clear while Reagan's Undersecretary of State for Latin America. I imagine the worst snakes in the WH were seen as likely sources.

5. named by who right away?
The White House always maintained "well, there a lot of top officials." "I don't now that we'll ever get to the bottom of it", etc, etc, etc.

But if Scot asked these guys, did he ask anyone else at the same time? He only told us about these three.

Actually I recall that Wilson himself named Rove almost immediately, but how about Libby and Abrahms?

7. Wilson, Chris Matthews, some news accounts
and the general DC rumor mill. Two years ago I knew Rove and Libby were the likely leakers, and I'm hardly in the know. I live in Fla.

I have no idea about Abrahms, other than people know what he is.

4. How did Abrams come into the picture? He's involved in the Franklin AIPAC
spy case. The two AIPAC analysts who accepted a classified docuument from Larry Franklin, then the OSP Iran desk officer, ran that material past Elliot Abrams.

Pray tell - how is he suspected of being in the loop on the Plame case, as well? As he was star player in Iran-Contra, and was convicted (and then pardoned, I believe), it wouldn't be too surprising if he's a link to a larger neocon conspiracy.

6. I agree, Abrams being included in Scotty's three is interesting...
Rove and 'Scooter' Libby had been bandied about publicly as the probably leakers but I don't recall Abrams being widely talked about in the aspect of the leaks.

Obviously, Scotty, was covering the bases for the leakers, including Abrams, in a failed attempt to cover up the facts. That tells me Abrams has a pivotal part in this as well as Rove and Libby.

8. Or else, Scotty got his BushCo black ops confused.
He may know something about Rovergate that hasn't been publicly discussed yet, in which case he gave it away. It is tempting to conclude that he's almost as dumb as his boss. :eyes:

9. Well, it's definitely the type of thing that Eliot Abrams
would do.

He was one of the worst liars of the Reagan Administration, and that's saying a lot!
