Somebody needs to tell Shrub that one of his attributes is NOT
English, and for SURE not LATIN!

Just heard the idot say carriculum Vitais!!!!

Mr. President, Carriculum Vitae is the singular. Carriculum Vitai is the plural. THERE IS NO SUCH WORD AS VITAIS!

Oh God, this mans speech capabilities, or lack of them, drives me CRAZY!!!!!!!!!

1. If Bush needs to be 'snooty' about such things, he should simply
use "CV" and really make people wonder. :)

This is part of his big outreach to Latin America.

4. not to be a picker of nits...
vita is the singular
vitae is the plural, and curriculum vitae is never correct unless you're including events from past lives.

5. You're right. I should have know that too.
More years ago than I care to discuss, I studied 3 years of Latin! I have to say though, that as soon as I heard him say Vitis, I KNEW THAT was very wrong!!!!!

His speech writers really need to keep it simple.

8. he makes my ears bleed too...
i think it's his strategery. He hopes his savaging of the republic will go un-noticed in the superior torment of his mangling of the english language.

7. not to be a picker of even more nits,
but the plural is 'curricula vitae'

and 'vitae' is properly pronounce 'VIT-tie'.

i think the proper latin singular should be 'curriculum vita', however, this is rarely seen, and 'curriculum vitae' is widely accepted.

9. i agree on the first part
but don't give that popular usage baloney. There's a reason why the second usage comes second. Because it's not the first!

14. They did early in his campaign and even the first few months of
his first term. I think they just gave up, as I have...most of the time! WHen he tries to use foreign words and screws them up, I go nuts, but not the standard English language. He's screwed it up so many times, I'm actually amaized when he completes a sentence correctly. I'm not amaized very often!!!

he said, and I'm going to try for a phonetic description here, "vities". As in "neckties". I really choked on my beer with that one! Where does he come up with this stuff? My 8 yr old granddaughter isn't that bad!

18. Aw c'mon. Cut him some slack. He probably meant to say
"Mai Tais." He was just trying to stumble through his speech and instead of reading what was in front of him, he merely slipped and said what he was really thinking about instead. I mean, who hasn't done that at one time or another? For instance, you mean to say "Dubya" but end up saying "goddamned lying son-of-a-bitching election-stealing war-mongering coke-snorting language-mangling Jimmy-Jeff-poking asshole." I know that has happened to me once or twice. ;)

17. at least, if he sticks to ancient languages ...
... he won't risk creating an international incident.

For example ... he attempts to speak French, and -- surprise -- it comes out as Spanish.

"GREGORY: I wonder why it is you think there are such strong sentiments in Europe against you and against this administration? Why, particularly, there's a view that you and your administration are trying to impose America's will on the rest of the world, particularly when it comes to the Middle East and where the war on terrorism goes next? And, Mr. President, would you maybe comment on that?
DUBYA: Very good. The guy memorizes four words, and he plays like he's intercontinental.
GREGORY: I can go on.
DUBYA: I'm impressed -- que bueno. Now I'm literate in two languages.

And when he does try to speak Spanish ...
"George W. Bush’s mistakes with English are famous, but the press has been generous in not reporting his gaffes in Spanish and seems to have given him an “A” for effort.

For example, during the 2000 election he asked the audience for their “botas” (boots) instead of “votos” (votes)."

Also he claims to have studied Japanese (a course does show up on his Yale transcript, but ...)

"For example, I took a class that studied Japanese Haiku. Haiku, for the uninitiated, is a 15th century form of poetry, each poem having 17 syllables. Haiku is fully understood only by the Zen masters. As I recall, one of my academic advisers was worried about my selection of such a specialized course. He said I should focus on English. I still hear that quite often. But my critics don't realize I don't make verbal gaffes. I'm speaking in the perfect forms and rhythms of ancient Haiku."

20. Latin? No. English? No. Southern Fried Gibberish? Oh, yes.
He also seems fluent in Corn Pone Platitudes garnished with the intellectual depth of a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader.

He has even outshone Ronald Reagan in promoting the concept that Dumb is Desirable in a politian.
