DU geesers, do you know who Stanley Karnow is?
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 08:16 PM by Ernesto
I thought he was a pretty well accepted historical expert on the Vietnam war. Apparently I'm just a confused old goat because, near as I can tell, there is zero interest on my post today about his compaparison of Nam to the ongoing quagmire.

5. Which more or less formed the basis for a fairly decent
documentary series in the early eighties, as I recall.

2. That's Mr. Geezer, if you please. And, yes I do know who he is.
I'm not surprised by the lack of interest in your post. Everybody's playing "gotcha politics" over Rove hoping for another Watergate and war is on the back burner.

6. Geezer wannabee
Saigon fell when I was still in highschool so I have few friends lost to it or affected by it on a family level. It doesn't mean tho that I don't see the connection. I think one of the problems with it all is that our 'leaders' and I use that term loosely see war as a competition and not as lives lost or ruined. This ain't football guys.

Thanks for the post and the reminder why all this is so important about Rove... he was covering up their lack of legitimate reason to send thousands to their deaths.

7. I hope I'm not a geezer -- yet ...
I was a junior in college in 1982-83, when that 10-part documentary series on the Vietnam War came out on PBS. Karnow's book on Vietnam was the companion piece to that series. I'd love to see that PBS series again.

If I remember correctly, Karnow was one of the very early journalists in that war -- pre-1965.
