Dad gets probation in drowning death
Dad gets probation in drowning death
Judge: Family must be reunited
By Jason Alley, The News-Herald
PUBLISHED: July 17, 2005

DETROIT — Raising three young children by yourself can be much more hectic and stressful than most people realize.

A Wayne County Circuit Court judge used that reasoning Thursday in sentencing a man to five years probation after he was convicted of leaving his 14-month-old daughter in the bathtub to drown as he watched pornography on another level of the house.

2. News like this always sickens my heart
but I feel for the other children too.

Will Dad every be able to watch porn again, with a conscience?

5. Will he be able to watch porn again?
God, I hope so. I hope he can overcome the death of his child so he can watch porn again guilty free.

3. I can't imagine how he must feel.

Sure, it's easy to criticize.

But as a parent, I have left the kids alone for a few minutes at a time... I've even fallen asleep on a couch while they were playing only to wake up to a room decorated with the contents of the refrigerator.

100% vigilance is impossible for all but the most neurotic parents.

The self-loathing that this fellow will live with will be truly crushing because he will identify a 'selfish' urge with failing to protect his kid.

As easy as it would be to demonize him - think of what a piece of dirt he feels like right now.

I'm guessing there's no punishment you could imagine that he does not already wish upon himself.

But not while they're in water on another level of the house. I hope.

6. Watching a 14mo while in the tub
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 08:40 PM by woodsprite
is not beyond the realm of what a responsible parent should be doing and is not in the least neurotic. No baby or toddler should be left alone in the tub -- whether it's to answer the phone, put in a load of laundry or go get a towel and CERTAINLY not to watch a porn flick on another floor of the house. His baby died because he was jacking off someplace else. There is a problem with that.

This judge should be censured for his judgement and the guy should at least at the bare minimum have mandatory community service and parenting classes.

Added:
Anybody know if that's a condition of his parole?

10. I agree.
How long does it take to scrub a kid that size, and get her out of the tub to a safe place to play, right?
