Poll question: What will be the next shiny thing corporate news will use to distract us |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 01:38 AM by undisclosedlocation
from actual significant events eg Rove, Iraq lies, etc.?
No disrespect meant towards any missing, hurt or murdered human being; any impression of contempt towards major US news outlets and their corporate overlords insisting on offering wall-to-wall coverage to what should be local stories while ignoring events of historic proportions however is completely intentional.

2. Last week's attempts to paint Wilson as a Democrat who did... |
|
... what he did for purely partisan reasons kind of fell flat, but that suggests the direction Rove wants to go. My guess Rove is going to go hard into smear-the-Democrats overdrive, to force the press to look away from him for a while.
I expect some nasty comments coming from the most dedicated administration supporters in the press about Democrats. What those might be, I can't say. But, he's going to get the right wing pundits as stirred up about Democrats as possible for the next few days. He's got to create a diversion until the August recess. Democrats are a perennial target, but it's going to get worse for a while.
Just my guess.

3. Whatever sells the most toothpaste or diet pills. |

Hell, if Rove, Iraq, etc, sold their Pop Tarts or Shampoo, they'd be pushing the stories.
Face it. Americans prefer entertainment to news. Iraq has lost it's entertainment value, and Rove never had any.

Edit: However, I only had about 30 seconds, so what I put on about Paris is kind of ridiculous. Then again, so is she.

It'll be something ostensibly new, but with a tired and predictable aspect to it as well. That way it'll be new enough to distract, but not so new that the media won't know whether or not it will get enough ratings to be worth exploiting.
Probably another disaster, real or manufactured. The news these days seem to take their cues less from Walter Cronkite and more from Irwin Allen.
