"Wall of Tolerance" junk mail... |
|
...Anyone else get a solicitation offering to "put your name on the Wall of Tolerance" by snail mail? Personally I could care less about having my name displayed publicly. I'm just wondering if these guys are legit or a scam, and what their standing in the activist community is.

1. I get them all the time. |

I'm with you - I don't feel that paying to have my name on a wall is money best spent. First, I don't have that much money, second I feel it should go somewhere where it can have a positive result.

4. I fell for that one in high school, I must admit. |

Gosh I thought I was the schizny back then when I was "awarded" this honor. I even had it on my resume for a short while.
Gullible!

3. For heavens' sake, it's from the Southern Poverty Law Center. |

I don't know of any more 'liberal' group who's done so much to expose extreme RW hate-groups.

And I don't see what your beef is. It is from a well known, well respected organization, the Southern Poverty Law Center. Sure, it is a fund raising gimmick, but I don't think that it is a scam. If you donate for this cause, I'm sure that your name will appear on the Wall.
What is your gripe on this? It is no different than other well known organizations' fund raising schemes, and is in fact probably much more above board than many.

That's what I was asking. Whether these people were legit. And it seems that at least some DUers know of them and hold them in high esteem, which is good to know.

6. But you've been "nominated" |

I don't need my name on a wall to support the causes I care about.

While I'm sure they got your name and mine and probably everyone on this board from a liberal cause list, the donation is very worthwhile. Send 'em a few bucks if you can.
The names on the wall are actually projected images, so they won't be set in stone. These names are of people who donated even a few bucks to the cause.
It is worthwhile.
