Why would Shrub try to upstage Traitorgate NOW??? |
|
Doesn't he have until October to announce his nominee? And isn't October also the month when the Grand Jury will be finished and will likely hand down indictments?
So, wouldn't it make more sense to try to upstage it THEN, when it's likely to be much bigger than it is right now?
Does this mean something really big is about to break re. Traitorgate?

1. well, actually he would want to appoint with enough time to |
|
allow the Senate to confirm by October. That being said, he is grandstanding

-- but my question still stands. As it is, by the time Fitz is done, the SC nomination story will likely have settled, and is unlikely to be good fodder when they will REALLY need fodder: when Rove, Scooter & Co. are indicted.

6. because with Scooter Libby's name coming up, the talk |
|
is edging closer to Cheney. Now we're talking about Cheney's aide, soon we'll be speculating about Cheney himself, and after that, who will the media be speculating about? The net keeps getting bigger and the implications are not good.

4. He figures it's a lot easier getting a SC nominee through now ... |
|
than when he is getting impeached.
These boys are going DOWN. :nuke:

5. He needs to get Rove out of the headlines! It's hurting Shrub! |
|
His ratings have been falling and this Rove mess is making it worse, so he believes he can get it off the front page with this nominee. He's probably right, but only temporarily.
He doesn't really have until Oct. The Senate Confirmation will take a while, and if there's hostility, it's will take a lot longer! You also have to remember, the Senate takes the month of August off and doesn't come back until after Labor day (I think). That only allows a little over a month for fighting! Not very long in Senate time!

7. This is called flailing. Even if he diverts media attention from Rove |
|
for awhile, the Abu Ghraib photos and videos are being released on Friday.
And the leak investigation is legal matter, not a PR issue. It's not going away.

10. Maybe he's banking on Renquist's resignation |
|
He seems to get bailed out when he needs it. And then for October, there will be the yearly budget fights.
