DU Activist Proposal: Urge patriotic members of Congress to block recess
I think it would be an exceptional mechanism by which to bring every citizen in America to confront the devastating threat from within being waged by Bush and his neoconster gang.

Specifically, I am suggesting we convince sufficient number of members of Congress to block recess for the August 1, 2005 to Sept 5, 2005 period.

Thank you for your consideration of this proposal.

Peace.

www.missionnotaccomplished.us - How ever long it takes, the day must come when tens of millions of caring individuals peacefully but persistently defy the dictator, deny the corporatists their cash flow, and halt the evil being done in Iraq and in all the other places the Bu$h neoconster regime is destroying civilization and the environment in the name of "America."

2. It's pretty usual
I think it's an annual recess, gives the congresspersons an opportunity to get back to their home constituencies for an extended period. I don't think this recess is anything Dems should try to prevent.

3. the timing is spooky
Especially with the repetition of the nuclear terrorism in 90 days "threat", the nuclear terrorism exercise in South Carolina in August, and the approval ratings sucking.

4. Yes. It is a scheduled recess. That's what makes it a special ...
... opportunity to galvanize national support for ending the war in Iraq and investigating, indicting and prosecuting all the members of the Bush administration involved in the deception of the American people and Congress.

This Nation has never been more threatened than now.

No more serious threat to a Nation's security exists than those who undermine it from within its core. Bu$h, Cheney, Rove, Libby, .... are the gravest threat our national security has ever confronted.

Politics before Constitution; neocon imperialism before national security - we have been attacked from within.

Every citizen and every true American member of Congress must focus immediately and relentlessly on removing these treacherous traitors from our government.

Blocking recess on August 1, 2005 is exactly what should happen. How can anyone 'vacation' while our soldiers are dying for Bu$h's lies; while more innocent Iraqi citizens are killed; while rendition and torture are standard operating procedure for Bu$h's administration.

How can anyone 'vacation'? How can our Congress 'recess'? The entire Nation must focus on the crimes being committed in it's name and bring them to a halt.

Peace.

5. "Time is running out for those of us who do not want more U.S. wars, ...
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 05:41 PM by understandinglife
... or more killings, more maimings, more empire-building, more occupations, more global injustice, more flouting of human rights, more fake democracy, more wealth for a few, more poverty for many, more weapons and profits for weapons-makers, more lies from the media, more ignorance among consumers of the media. And finally, time is also running out for those of us who do not want more power concentrated in an "establishment" whose organization few of us can even describe, although it has made servants of almost all of us.

In short, the black, red, and blue button a friend gave us a while back has it right. It says, "The REVOLUTION begins now."

Let's make it peaceful, but let's make it happen.

Fighting Fascism Then, and Now

by John Pilger

July 17, 2005

<clip>

Between 1936 and 1939, the International Brigade fought in Spain on the side of the Republican government against the fascist forces of General Franco. There were British, Americans, Irish, Canadians, Australians and others. They were very young and all volunteers, determined to stop fascism in its tracks. They made a difference.

<clip>

The enemy then was fascism, out-and-out fascism. Armband wearing, strutting, ranting fascism. The enemy then was a great world power, rapacious, with plans of domination, of capturing the world's natural resources: the oil fields of the Caspian and the Middle east, the mineral riches of Africa. They seemed invincible.

<clip>

The world is a very different place from Barcelona in 1938, and from the Sierra del Pandols, and the Valley of Jarama, and all the battlefields of Spain, but the legacy of those who confronted fascism then endures as a warning to us all today.

It is a warning about sinister power behind democratic facades that uses the battle cries of democracy. It is a warning about messianic politicians, apparently touched by God, and about appeasement and truth. And it is about moral courage: about speaking out, breaking a silence.

Because if we don't, it is unlikely anyone is going to form an International brigade and come help us.

Peace.
