CBS Evening News: "Rumors in Iraq!" = "Conspiracy Theory" in the US
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 06:14 PM by leftchick
This was one very poorly done segment with Kimberley Dozier in Baghdad. It was about how Iraqis have come to believe that Americans are behind the suicide bombings.

They also said many Iraqis believe that the US has used chemical weapons! Kimberley: "I know it is hard for you in the US to believe that but in Iraq the conspiracy theories abound." Hasn't this already been documented Kimberley???

That pretty much summed up her report. All of the Iraqi's suspicions about the US in Iraq were pure "conspiracy theories"!

One good point was made about how the rumors of Iraqi mis-treatment and torture in US run prisons were rampant for months in Iraq. At the time the US denied over and over it was true. Then the Abu Ghraib photos came out to show the world the truth.

Pretty pathetic puff piece.

10. Thank you for that Gloria
Very Grim indeed. I also believe that Iraq Body Count civilian death toll is off by about 100,000. It is impossible to get an accurate accounting from "media reports". I am more inclined to believe the Lancet and the Iraqi Humanitarian organization numbers of 128,000 dead. 55% women and children.

:(

4. True or not
It's not very good for our image. It's hard to help people who think you are bombing and gasing them. At some point one might conclude we failed to gain their trust and thus unlikely to be very helpful to restoring peace to the region.

14. "Whitey Pete' is apparently Napalm's chemical cousin.....
<snip>

Besides cluster munitions, a new and improved version of napalm, the Vietnam War's other most grisly weapon, and its chemical cousin white phosphorous, have been used by American forces in Iraq, a fact known to few Americans because our media has barely reported on the subject. The Pentagon has admitted that it used napalm near the Kuwaiti border during the invasion, though the use seems to have been more widespread than the Pentagon said. For instance, the Bush Administration reportedly lied to its British allies about its use. (In Europe, the evident use of napalm by the U.S. in its assault on the Iraqi city of Fallujah last November sparked headlines and furious opposition in the British Parliament.)

9. Speaking of propaganda.
It seems to me that the Bush Regime along with their Corp Media have fairly successfully cast the Insurgency as Terrorists. No longer are Iraqis fighting to rid themselves of U.S./UK Occupation but there are only terrorists that are attempting to avert Democracy from becoming a reality in Iraq.

12. I heard that on CNN yesterday
After reading this past weekend how more and more of the bombers are (Surprise!) homegrown Iraqis. I heard on CNN from some armchair General how ALL of the suicide bombers are foreign agents! :crazy:

I think they went last week. Couldn't they find any news to spin ?
