My husband said this to me before the election. Bush and Cheney were acting just too like they didn't have a care in the world.
If you own the election system, what do you care what the majority of the people think? What do you care if your chief political strategist is a felon and a traitor, or your vice president is guilty of massive theft and worse? If your buds--your major donors, your very campaign chairmen--run the voting machine companies and tabulate all the votes with secret, proprietary programming code, what do ethics or good government or honesty and integrity matter to you?
And if you permit this to happen--if you permit others to steal elections for you, and wage unjust war for you, and destroy honest gov't agents for you, and lie for you all day long--what are you but a soulless little tyrant who thinks that you will always have a cushy meal ticket, no matter what you do, no matter whom you make others kill, no matter what laws others violate on your behalf, and no matter how empty and alone you are inside, with nothing to believe in or love but your own hellish little ego?

The answer to the stink in Washington DC is restoring our right to vote, by throwing Bushite electronic voting machine companies--Diebold, ES&S and brethren--out of the election business NOW--or, at the least, achieving some measure of election transparency with paper ballot backups, strict auditing, and no secret, proprietary programming code owned and controlled by major Bush donors and campaign chairs! The only place where we can get this done is in state/local jurisdictions, where the authority over election systems still resides, and where ordinary people still have some say. The bipartisan corruption in the electronic voting business at the state/local level is daunting, but it is nothing compared to the bipartisan corruption in Washington DC, and it is local and therefore much more fixable.
