It's hard to win in a slanted, criminal game.

2. We do the circular firing squad thing too much.
It doesn't help ... yet lively discussion and head banding debate is a requirement for discovering the path to the public good. Perhaps the perversion of the process is inevitable, given human nature. It is a disturbing fact that historically, previous democracies have been relatively short lived.

6. I think so, too
But the system of media, lobbyists, and think tanks build around the politicla process is not conducive to "public thinking". Effective PR techniques tell ya to start from a conclusion, which is no way to begin a rational process. We have some big, new, nasty problems facing this country ... as a nation, we're gonna have to think our way through this and then work our butts off. The people are up to it, but I am not so sure about the system as currently managed.

7. Agreed....
although starting from a conclusion is not necessarily a bad thing as long as you are willing to abandon your argument/conclusion if the premises do not support it, which is, I believe, the fundamental flaw with fundamentalist and to a lesser degree, conservative thought. Where to go from here?
