This has been the leading news story in the Hampton Roads area all wek long. And Virginia Beach is one of the BIG freeperland areas around. The main reason for the navy's decsion to place it on the closure list--the new F35 joint strike fighter is said be even LOUDER than the F18 and F14s :wow: And having one of those damn things fly over your hosue will ratlle your entire body--even at "low speed".

1. Wonder what they are going to do with the property.
It is most definitely going to be a superfund site for years to come. My parents house was on the landing flight path for NAS Oceana so I for one am over joyed. I've been waiting for this for years. Yeahhhhhh!

2. I grew up near a NAS
it's now been converted to a naval support base rather than an air base. There are uses for it.

3. Fedex/UPS cargo airport maybe?
that would keep alot of jobs in the immediate area, and no more touch and go flights either..

6. They still use it a little since 9/11 sometimes
you see jets land there. I think there was talk of FedEx buying it but I think their planes are too big for it and no realestate close for a warehouse/sort facility.

4. It'll never happen...
I don't think Oceana is going to close. It made the list for politics ("We're considering ALL bases!").

5. The engines on planes designed to hover, or take off from
extemely short runways are always much louder than regular jets.
