Catholic nun's letter on Santorum

As a teacher for the Diocese of Pittsburgh for 14 years, one important lesson I learned was that no matter what I said to the child, whatever the parents said superseded my message. What parents say and how they live sends a message stronger than any teacher's voice no matter what the issue.

Sen. Rick Santorum and his wife have taught their children a powerful lesson on civic responsibility by refusing to pay any tuition money to the Penn Hills School District for their children who attended the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School ("Penn Hills Loses Bid to Charge Santorum," July 12). Released from that payment on a technicality shows that even an upstanding, moral gentleman like Sen. Santorum teaches his children the following lessons:

1) Take advantage of the system whenever you can.

2) The little guy pays while the rich and powerful guy gets away with it.

3) As a Catholic, you have no obligation to pay your share to the common good in spite of Catholic social doctrine.

Finally, I am shocked that our religious leaders who see Sen. Santorum as some sort of faith-and-morals hero have not spoken up on this issue at all.

I looked it up in the book. The "orum" ending on a Latin word indicates it is Second Declension Genitive Plural. That would translate literally to "of the Assholes" An education is a terrible thing to waste.

I like that. Instead of a mean-spirited attack, this comes off very well and I like how she slams him while still being respectful.

Also, it makes for a nice contrast. She mentiones his refusal to pay (I love the word "refusing" here) and still calls him "upstanding" and "moral", as his reputation suppsoedly dictates. Almost comes off as sarcsasm while still being polite.

I love it.

which he could have WELL afforded, would have denied a needy family's kids the opportunity to attend this school. They will take in a certain percentage of poor kids from the proceeds of those able to pay. Well, that's how it worked when I was in school. Did they change it?

39. No, it's one of those private charter cyberschools

not a bricks and mortar private school. The school system pays tuition for any eligible kid to enroll in the program. The issue wasn't that he could afford to pay himself (if his kids actually lived in Penn Hills they'd be as entitled to the program as any other kid) the issue was that his kids live in Virginia, and he only maintains the Penn Hills address for eligibility for his Senate seat and tax purposes. It's a very small house, his large brood would never fit in the place. He rents it out to relatives, if I recall.

BTW, if Ricky's so freakin' Catholic, shouldn't his kids be in a parochial school or a Catholic home study program like Seaton rather than using one of those evil secular programs? What the hell kind of conservative entrusts thier kids to gubmint funded schools anyhow? (Heck, we're liberal and broke and we educate LeftyKid on our own dime while Ricky's on the dole- what kind of bizzaroworld shit is that?)

Reminds me of the "religious-for-public-spectacle" Newt Gingrich, married and having affairs, harrassing staffers then threatening them, getting an abortion for one lover, then pressuring "the wife" for a divorce on her hospital bed when she had cancer, forcing her to sign the papers when she could barely stay awake. Then, recall, Gingrich would not pay alimony or child support for her and the kids, even with Court orders to do so, until they finally had to turn to their church for help, and the church raised the money to help her and the kids, since they were getting nothing from old "corporate morals." These are horrible people.
