Let's say *shudder* the RWers get Roe v. Wade overturned and stomp |
|
out all hope of gay marriage.
What would be their next big fight?
1) Getting religion back in the schools.
2) Controlling the media
3) Controlling what we wear
I know we'd like to think that they would lose their drive, ambition, and $$ if they won on their two favorite wedge issues. But that won't be the case. These people are NEVER happy, NEVER satisifed. I live with them I go to church with them, I know them. There will always be something more to be done to "bring this nation back to God".

14. And hospitals that won't allow OB/GYNs to write bc prescriptions |
|
or do abortions. I was quizzing my GYN about his beliefs when he told me that there is language in the contract prohibiting him from even talking about birth control!
As it stands right now, the hospital doesn't ask, but that could literally change overnight. This hospital is one that was merged with a Catholic hospital a few years ago. I advise everybody to find out what they can about the hospitals' policies in your area. I think these wackos are poised to spring a huge trap on us. :(

They've already pretty much won those, at least in the states where they are likely to.

10. They'll take whatever they can get, in any order. |
|
One of the difficult things about politics is how power tends to entrench itself. Gains in influence in one area can be used to gain influence in another.
Like a corporation attempting a monopoly, political factions vie for territory, and upon gaining it immediately put it to use gaining more territory.
(And when I say "political factions", it applies equally to major parties as well as branches/cults/PACs within a major party.)
You're right. Many of our opponents will never be happy. Even if they wiped out every person they disagree with, they'll turn on themselves shortly thereafter.
Also, note that many of our friends might well fall into this mindset too. All humankind has a percentage of perfectionists and purists.

If the freepers get Roe v Wade overturned the Women of America will rise up and smite them like they've never been smote before. That is the only up-side to the wing-nut appointment. It could keep the right wingers on the run for years!

16. Maybe. Maybe not. A lot of women I know feel like this about abortion |
|
It should not be used as birth control.
If the RW sells them the possibility of a ban on birth control abortions, but leave abortion open in the case of rape, incest, and life threatening circumstances I think a lot of women will take it.
Why? Because they know that they will never have an abortion because personally they don't believe it's the correct choice for them
Me, I am real close on what they are thinking except that I feel it has to stay legal for constitutional reasons. Even though I would never have one I can't make that decision for someone else.
This is one thing I feel President Clinton was exactly on target about. Keep it legal but make them rare.

18. You imply that the RW will only outlaw some abortions |
|
Do you have any historical evidence that they would take such a moderate position?
They have said repeatedly that a woman's body is a slave to any sperm cell that enters her body, whether it is from Bubba, Daddy, or the sexual predator down the street. HE has more rights in one sperm cell than she has in HER whole body! As soon as the SCOTUS ends our right to privacy in R. v. W. the RW will outlaw all baby killin'. They will not rest until all women are in bondage.

They aren't necessarily fundagelicals but are conflicte don the abortion issue and wind up siding with them by default I guess.

And I believe that they will abandon that POV when they see 13 year old girls giving birth to their own brother.
It may take a while, but the moderate backlash to the extremist ideas will take its toll. Remember 1964 when Barry Goldwater's extremism led to LBJ's landslide? Maybe I'm wrong, but I am trying desperately to find a bright side to this monumental debacle.

15. It might even be good if they got rid of Roe v. Wade |
|
Then perhaps the chickenshit assholes who vote for nazi thugs because it makes them feel "safe" will realize what the shitheels have in store for us.
Let them live with the consequences of their actions, as they're starting to do with Iraq. Rub it in their faces over and over. Enough states will maintain abortion rights that it will not be undoable, and the fuckwad "moderate" women who voted for the fascists can stew in their own juices.
"I'm afwaid of tewworwism and Mr. Bush wiww keep me and my children safe fwom them." Assholes.

for these people. They will always find (more) things to hate and be intolerant of.
And if their power grows, they'll use it more -- and their growing power may even attract more followers.
We have let this cancer grow too long... and the cobwebs over people's "eyes" grow too thick.
