I figured out why chimpy wants Roberts on the court by October! |
|
I think I figured out why the chimp wants Roberts to start his term before the October session. October is prolife month people. That's the chimp's grand plan. He wants to over turn roe asap!

2. Doubt it. He'd have all of Congress overturned in 2006 for sure. |

That is, if the DNC deals with the voting machines before then.

6. I would say it's because the Court convenes in October after summer break. |
|
I come down on the side that believes Bush isn't a real Christian activist, but one who USES them politically. If Roe was overturned, it would stir up MORE political activism from the left and the moderates who want it to be legal.
Bush's own mother, wife and daughters are prochoice. He has paid for abortions, himself. He is nowhere close to being sincere about overturning Roe, and will not want that to be his legacy.
Plus, the abortion issue is best AS an issue to bring in dollars and votes, especially in off year elections. Bush and the RNC will NOT give that up.

3. That would doom the Rethugs here in the Calif. November special election! |
|
Arnie's propositions would go even further down in flames, and San Diego would elect all Dems for new city council seats to work with new Democratic mayor Donna Frye then.

5. It's still a 5-4 majority in favor |
|
Rehnquist is next, so it will still be 5-4 after he is replaced. The flip comes after Stevens retires, who is likley to leave after Rehnquist. Then the court will have to wait for a case that challenges the constitutionality of Roe vs. Wade from the states. That could take another year or two as the case has to wend its way through the state and federal courts.

7. They have to have a case that has come through the state courts |
|
and arrived at the supreme court docket that impinches on Roe vs Wade. The challenge case would probably already have to be on their docket for it to happen in Oct. Also, I don't think the republican party as a whole wants it to happen - it would probably doom them in the midterm elections.

9. Google "First Monday in October" . . . |
|
it both amazes and amuses me how little people know about the workings of our government.
