If the economy of this country is run by the service sectors
then we are doomed.

Two days ago we got a letter from our local bank - US Bank - with a copy of a check that I have never seen before with a stamp that there were no sufficient funds, so they deducted the amount plus service fee from our checking account - about $120.

I rushed to the nearest branch, the manager thought that someone switched two digits of the account number and was going to take care of it. Well, today that amount is still missing from our account. I rushed to that bank again, it will be "tomorrow." Meanwhile I am fuming. What if that was all that we had in our account - been there - and now our checks would bounce?

What if the amount were for larger amount that would clean our balance? So he tells me that it might be a fraud, that someone got hold of our checking account number. What bullshit. I no longer have the original document that was mailed to us, only a copy of the front of the check, but I know that there were no endorsements on the back - I did glance at it. This is why they have a sample of our signatures. To compare them to both checks written and deposit. That's why we have to endorse checks.

So I am driving back home fuming and in the mail - a letter sent to a business in Southern California, a business that has been around for 20 years, and in that posh address for a year. An address that I have used previously. They own the building. But that letter is returned with a stamp "attempted." I am calling my contact and he cannot figure out what's wrong. I am reading the address to him - yep, that's correct. Is it possible that the office was closed? No, he laughs. Business is booming.

I am going to try to contact the post master of that branch. How can I be sure that wasting another stamp and resending will get there this time?

Perhaps a cabin in Montana is the answer.

And no, I am not feeling better after posting this.

1. Suggestion
if you don't get satisfaction from your bank tomorrow, go in there and tell them you are going to call the State Banking Commission and the Attorney General for your state.

We did this on advice of an attorney when we had bank trouble a while back (different trouble than yours)-they fixed things so fast our heads were spinning.

2. Thank you. Was thinking about that
but first thing, a letter is going to the chairman, president and CEO (all one person) of the bank.

There are enough dangers around about identity theft without some incompetent person accepting a check without proper endorsements.

At least a customer service of the postal office told me to take the envelope, as is, to the post office and they will take care of redelivering it without the need for new postage.
