40. No need to perjure yourself unless you've done something worse.
(Or you think you can get away with it.)

WARNING: Almost everything in the news right now is being controlled by Karl Rove. Fitz apparently doesn't leak.

43. "Unless you've done something worse"....EXACTLY!
You may be right about the press but I think someone in the CIA is doing the major leaking.

Everyday we learn a little bit more.

The White House can't seem to kill this story. Even a Supreme Court nom won't kill it.

A Democrat on the inside?

I feel like the CIA is seeting at the Bushies and plotting how they can take them out.

82. I think most of the information we're getting is indicative
of a limited hangout.

They're willing to paint Rove as a dirty political operative, but not as a traitor. (But he is a traitor, so it's not working.)

The next guy to be hung out is not Libby, but Cheney. (Another traitor.)

you may be right, but here's mike_c's scary prediction du jour....
The Bush administration will just circle the wagons and stonewall. I think they've been prepared for this-- at least subconsciously-- from the very beginning. These are people who were on the fringe until they managed to get into power in 2000. They're used to operating behind closed doors-- and in opposition to most everyone else-- and damn what anyone thinks of them. Nothing short of indictments will work, IMO-- and Bush's first response will likely be to simply fire the prosecutor. The neocon Bush cabal will make the Nixon WH look like a New England town hall model of open government. They will fortify, and simply continue running the country into the ground.

64. I believe that the press is the only hope we have...
...and that makes it hard to sleep at night. I think that congress or the courts will have to take Bush out of office, or at least make him ineffectual, but congress will only act if there is OVERWHELMING public pressure, and that depends on the press. The courts will only act if indictments are written, and that too is only likely to happen if overwhelming public pressure prevents the WH and the Justice Dept from squashing the investigations, which they WILL try to do. The press is key, IMO. Twenty-five years ago I would have had no qualms on that account. Today, our dependence on the press scares the hell out of me.

61. I think so too
It would also, to me, show that they really are guilty. They're in trouble either way. If the fire him they send a bad signal to the public. So they can't. I think they weren't thinking about what they were in for by hiring Fitzgerald. They probably thought he was another rightwinger who is party loyalist.

66. it would on DU and in the blogosphere....
I don't know about the rest of the country-- I think it's too early. Maybe AFTER the real issue becomes Bush's lies to get us into Iraq, and people begin to more generally face the utter meaninglessness of the deaths there, and the venality of Bush's motives. But as long as it remains about Rove, I don't think the outrage would go very far-- UNLESS the press keeps up the pressure and forces the scandal to widen. Remember, a scandal of equal proportions (so far) turned out to be little more than a bump in the road for the Reagan WH.

The media picked up his talking points and closed the case; nothing to see here.

He innocently received the Plame info from a reporter and did a little innocent political work to the detriment of a "Democrat" and to the benefit of Bush Oil; nothing to see here.

Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 06:22 PM by Ugnmoose
http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Report_Bloomberg_to_reveal_Rove_Libby_gave_false_te_0721.html

Bloomberg News has slotted a story alleging that senior Bush advisor Karl Rove and Vice President Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff 'Scooter' Libby provided false testimony to the special prosecutor to a Washington-based grand jury, RAW STORY has been told.

Patrick Fitzgerald, the Chicago special prosecutor appointed to investigate the outing of former covert agent Valerie Plame Wilson, may also be looking at whether other crimes -- such as perjury, obstruction of justice or leaking classified information -- were committed.

It's breaking tonight or tomorrow AM, sources say. Bloomberg has been among the head of the pack in breaking elements of the CIA leak scandal; they recently hired former Wall Street Journal editor Al Hunt.

27. WOW!

What did they lie about?

Beyond the outting itself, it shows conspiracy.

walls came a-tumblin' down.

Please let history repeat itself. Please.

74. I'll take that bet.
Ever once in a while, when they know something is inevitably about to break in MSM, Smudge will run the story a few hours ahead of the NYT or whatever to pretend that he got a scoop. Then all the sycophants can gather around & say, "See? Smudge covers bad things about the Wrong Wing too."

84. So...Isn't perjury a crime ?
Bush changed his statement from "involved" to anyone that has "committed a crime" ...would be fired.

So now Rove will be fired, or Bush will refuse to stand by his own words.

102. I was wondering about this.
at least with Matalin, I always harbored a hunch that it might have all grown to be too much for her and she bailed out of President Cheney's employ.

As for Cobra-Woman Karen, I recall that she slithered off to Texas prior to 9/11, returning after the all-clear, or after her son's final ballet recital, or whatever.

Which raises other questions of an essentially paranoid nature.

111. No.
It's primarily Rove's attorney. The goal is to innoculate Karl by showing that he was just trying to help the president win the war on terror .... you know, that war that democrats are too cowardly to fight. Karl was protecting you, Eloriel. You and I and all the DUers who take his noble actions for granted. While Karl was busy helping to protect you and I, a couple of the boys from the VP's office and the State Department may have stretched the rules -- Karl didn't, as he was too busy protectinmg you -- but they only did it for love of flag and country.

Karl is a dirty, low dog. And he will never accept blame for this. I've quoted Wilson numerous times, where he writes that a few of his journalist friends had told him that Rove blames Cheney and Libby for this entire episode.

Fitzgerald has no reason to leak information. His cards are all in a row, although it would be better if he files criminal contempt charges against Judith Miller. I am sure he will by October; then she faces serious time in prison.

106. Well, let 'em try.
I think there is enough ill-will and outrage built up by Bushco in enough of the press to fuel this thing.

The corruption and anti-Americanism of the administration is getting harder to ignore. Defenders of treason have a tendency to look worse than fools to even the most typical of we Americans.
