What Is This "Cultural Elite" Crap? |
|
As far as I can see, the religiously insane are in charge of everything: White House, Congress and the Supreme Court. And they have been for years.
And yet LIBERALS are the power "elite" in this country?
Give me a break.
The only elite currently is the arrogantly overly religious elite which runs our nation and tells us that theirs is the only proper "morality".
They are the offensive ones. Not professors at Ivy League universities.

1. Answer them with this - The CORPORATE ELITE is in charge in this country. |
|
Dare them to prove otherwise.

3. it's the victim mentality of the GOP |
|
Oh, good conservatives can't get a break because of the Liberal media.
Conservatives alway have to fight against the Elites.
Oh the Gay Agenda might jump out from behind a bush and mug you. Better watch out!
The Liberal court system is going to take away your family values!
Yadda yadda yadda.
That's why Republican's always have to create straw men who don't exist, like when Rove pulled that shit about Conservatives preparing to fight and liberals offering therapy, or they have to make up some vaunted Liberal Monolith that they have to constantly fight against.
They have no valid arguments, they sell out to business, they have narrow minded racist, male-centric agenda, so the only way they can sound halfway decent is to create a major divide in our country. Part of that is they pretend to be a righteous victim fighting against the cold, hard system.

4. it's an effort by the Republicans to define class in terms of culture |
|
rather than economics. The "elite" are those who read books, teach at universities, journalists, or anyone who thinks independently. You make 40,000 a year and teach at a college, you're the elite. But if you're a good ole Texas millionaire, you're a regular guy. This is part of the GOP's tactic of elevating culture above economics and traditional political issues into the public debate. And they have been enormously successful. Even the left now limits it's discussion of politics to cultural issues and virtually ignores issues of class and social justice. We need to stop allowing them to define the terms of political discussion.

The ones in charge are the power and war mongers. I'll take the cultural elite over that any day.

11. It's code words for smatass lefty intellectuals who use big words. |

They are also obviously guilty of asking questions that challenges the sacred cows that the "good 'Murkans" worship:
The flag. The "Traditional Family". "Traditional American Values". The glorious military. The "common man". Ignorance.
The "Cultural Elite" are noted for aberrations like listening to music that isn't necessarily about trucks, dogs, unfaithful women, guns, booze, or God.
They have been known to eat food that doesn't have barbecue sauce on it or isn't wrapped in a bun or plastic.
They watch movies that don't contain scenes of exploding cars or sex on a refrigerator and may even require reading skills.
They may even look upon automobiles as transportation rather than a fashion statement or confirmation of manhood or wealth.
They may even believe that women are equal to themselves and even treat them that way.
And, many more indicators of "Cultural Elitism" and it's many dangers can be found in the writings, sayings, and philosophy of noted commentators such as A. Hitler, B. Mussolini, G.W. Bush, R. Limbaugh, D. Trump, R. Reagan, J. Dobson, and other defenders of the Herrenvolk..er..."good" people.

and on and on. Snore. :boring:
The right wing **must** have a manufactured enemy to exist -- it has to feel embattled and threatened and small and frightened and powerless.
This is how the right-wing leadership stays in power -- just keep up the big scare, whether it's a "Communist plot," or "secular humanism," or the latest, "Islamofacism." A significant number of people are all too willing to go along with blindly hating the enemy-du-jour, without questioning the manipulation behind it.
Never mind that the right-wing power-brokers are running the entire show, and sucking down the corporate profits like never before.
