Did Karl Rove Lie To The FBI?
Did Karl Rove Lie To The FBI?

http://www.tpmcafe.com/story/2005/7/21/173311/376

An article on the American Prospect website by Murray Waas claims that Karl Rove "did not disclose that he had ever discussed CIA officer Valerie Plame with Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper during Rove’s first interview with the FBI, according to legal sources with firsthand knowledge of the matter."

If this is true, and my phone call to the Prospect indicates that they are confident in their source, this could be the beginning of the purjury case that the special prosecutor was looking for.

I think perjury would be the charge if he denied to the Grand Jury (where he'd be under oath) that he had ever discussed Valerie Plame with ___________. Obstruction of justice would be the charge I think if Rove lied to the FBI investigating the leak, before talking to the GJ. If the GJ had asked so specifically, using Cooper's name, it would be madness for Hot Karl to deny it, since using the name itself implies a knowledge that such a conversation took place. All it takes to put him in jail then is Cooper confirming that Rove talked about Plame's identity and status as CIA undercover.
His defense is shaping up to be "I didn't know enough about her to know I was breaking any law". We'll see. He may get off with that and on the other hand it may also make for a pretty good trial, which would be bad enough for the Bushler Whitehouse.
