Breaking News: New report that Libby and Rove may have committed perjury
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 09:23 PM by pointsoflight
http://thinkprogress.org/2005/07/21/breaking-bloomberg-reporting-that-rove-libby-may-be-subject-to-perjury-charges/

July 22 (Bloomberg) - Two top White House aides have given accounts to the special prosecutor about how reporters told them the identity of a CIA agent that are at odds with what the reporters have said, according to persons familiar with the case.

Lewis “Scooter'’ Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, told special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald that he first learned from NBC News reporter Tim Russert of the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame, the wife of former ambassador and Bush administration critic Joseph Wilson. Russert has testified before a federal grand jury that he didn’t tell Libby of Plame’s identity.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove told Fitzgerald that he first learned the identity of the CIA agent from syndicated columnist Robert Novak, who was first to report Plame’s name and connection to Wilson. Novak, according to a source familiar with the matter, has given a somewhat different version to the special prosecutor.

3. I think you're right, but we don't know that yet!
We know that SOMEBODY lied, but that's all we appear to know at this time.

I happen to think it was probably Rove and Scooter too, but think about this.

Judy gets the info from XXX and tells Cooper. Cooper calls Rove and says "here's what I heard." Rove confirms, then calls Novak.

Miller is sitting in jail for some reason, and I can't believe it's Rove. She has to be protecting someone else. With all the info out there already on Rove, why would she bother?

Jist a thought.

4. Cooper testified that he FIRST HEARD FROM ROVE
not Miller

6. So maybe I had the sequence of people wrong.
All I mean is that technically, Rove could be telling the truth and some other WH "un-named official" was the real source.

It's obvious that somebody is lying, I don't think we have proof of who it is for sure...yet.

8. They contributed to outing her on purpose
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 09:34 PM by jsamuel
That has been established by the "fair game" quote along with a slew of other facts.

I think 90% of the American people would believe Cooper and Russert over the people who had access to the TS MEMO that had the information in the first place.

On edit:
We know Libby was on the plane when the TS MEMO was passed out. He almost certainly found out from that memo and knew it was TS. (this was before any reporters found out or reported about it)

PPS - I think you are giving Miller a little too much credit...

11. Miller too much credit?
I suppose you could say that if you think she's stupid enough to spend time in jail to cover for someone who's already been outed, and by his own admission too.

I'm not trying to give her credit for anything. I just can't believe anyone would stay in the clink unless they were covering for something that's still unknown.

9. My favorite quote?
"The leak case shows that administration officials have in effect been using reporters as shields by claiming that information on Plame first came from them." I hope the lapdogs are taking notes. Five years of abject groveling to this administration had gotten them exactly nowhere. And it couldn't happen to a nicer group.

21. Will these reporters AT LAST figure out that they need to NOT PROTECT
shrubco from scrutiny any longer, as it won't keep shrubco from throwing them to the wolves, into jail, or worse if they feel that's what they need to do to save their own sorry selves...?

12. Here's another link....I have questions about Andrea Mitchell...
she was the first to interview Wilson after Novracula outed him; she is one of those who were subpoened; I have NEVER trusted her; was she on AF1 to Africa in July 2003(?); she made such a ridiculous fuss today with Rice in Africa that I thought it was a set-up...with her screaming about "freedom of the press in our country" and all of that...seemed like smoke screens. Something is up with that one.

Bloomberg reveals Rove, Libby gave false testimony

Bloomberg's Richard Keil will reveal tonight: "Two top White House aides have given accounts to the special prosecutor about how reporters told them the identity of a CIA agent that are at odds with what the reporters have said, according to persons familiar with the case." The story reflects one given written by Murray Waas for the American Prospect.

removed too. I think the people there are just a little nuts!

25. I think she might have provoked them with her questions...it looked
planned to me. And if she were such a "real reporter" she would have confronted the B* administration with appropriate questions. IMHO.

and we must not forget that it's wrong, no matter how many years we've had to get accustomed to it.
