So I was thinking about Roberts just now
I was thinking about Roberts just now. He is clearly a Bush loyalist and does have some ties to him. I have heard he met Bush through a friend they share and Bush met this friend through S&B. I think one reason why Bush is getting this guy is because of his anti-abortion laws. I just don't think they would ever get rid of it personally. Why? What else would they have to talk about? I hope and pray that all the time of course, but you never know with these people. I think they are getting this guy because of his stances on abortion and how it will make more people on the right vote for him even if they were *thinking* of not confirming him. The republicans now cater to those of the fundie base and they are all dead set against anybody who isn't anti-abortion. So this guy is the perfect person to get through. If a republican doesn't vote to confirm this guy for whatever reason their republican opponent in their next re-election can use this to gain votes. It's all about controlling and manipulating. They always use the "pro-life" and "pro-marriage" stance when all else fails.

2. Here's some more info:

<snip>
Serrin Foster, president of Feminists for Life, declined to characterize Ms. Roberts' views but said the group's goals were "bigger" than ending abortion rights. "If Roe were over, that's not enough for us," she said adding that the group's ultimate goal was to "make abortion unthinkable" by providing every pregnant woman and mother with adequate support and resources."

4. I'm al for providing every mother with adequate support
and resources. Why don't we do that first and then see whether the public still wants to outlaw the few remaining abortions?

6. They Overlook 24% of Women
That's the 24% who choose not to have children. There's nothing - no amount of money, "support," anything that would make us want to go through a pregnancy.

It, of course, also oversimplifies the issue. There are many women who want children, and may want 2 but no more. For them, more money is not the answer - ending the pregnancy is.

7. Those women should not be mothers because
they will not be "fit" mothers. Every child deserves to be wanted more than anything else. Every pregnant woman who wants to have her child should be able to have it regardless of her socio-economic situation. That should be the starting point. If women who want their children could have them, there would be far fewer abortions although I think that anti-abortion advocates underestimate the numbers of women who choose abortions due to health reasons.
