The SC Nomination Diversion FAILED MISERABLY!!! Why? |
|
There is something in the air folks. The media did not play the game this time. Hmm, maybe one of their own rotting in jail to protect these scum finally made their self interest genes kick in...They may be whores, but even whores resent being used so blatantly...

I think as long as they're paid, and they get their share of the bling, they're perfectly fine with being used.

maybe because Roberts is so...white, male and predictably conservative?
If Bush wanted a distraction, he should have nominated a liberal black lesbian. THAT would have been a distraction.
I have to say, that the distraction failing...just adds to my feelings of hope that this WILL go somewhere.
But, I still keep waiting for reality to hit.

the person who used to neuter the press is now on the ropes, and now they're unLeashing 5 years worth of pent up aggression.

4. It all seemed to turn around when Judith Miller was jailed. |
|
Don't known if that has anything to do with it.

6. Do you really think an SC nomination is a diversion? |
|
I still don't understand this argument. Aside from 9/11, this is probably the most important moment in Bush's presidency.

7. Yes, It Was Pushed Forward To Take the Heat Off |
|
It's the timing of it, not the nomination itself. He wasn't going to do it so quickly originally and no one's ever done it the way he did, via a prime time speech.

8. yes, and as others have said |
|
it's the timing.
Bush said he'd nominate by October...and he makes the nomination in JULY?
It was intended to distract the public's attention by giving them something else to think about NOW.

10. That makes some sense |

But it's never been clear to me why the Rove matter needs to be in the Press 24/7.
Frankly, it's never been clear to me why anything needs to be in the Press 24/7. I think we survived pretty well as a nation with a morning paper, an evening paper, and Walter Cronkite. But that's neither here nor there.
My point is, the Rove matter is before the Grand Jury. If he gets indicted, hooray! There is no way for the press to bury that fact.
And if he doesn't get indicted (which everyone here is ignoring as a possibility), well, then do we really need Hannity and O'Reilly to be screaming "Vindication!!!!" for weeks.
And why are people here watching Hannity and O'Reilly anyway? I've never understood how everyone knows exactly what is going on on FoxNews every minute. I haven't watched a second of FoxNews (aside from a few minutes during the Schiavo madness) since November and I've never been happier.

13. well...I agree that there doesn't NEED to be 24/7 coverage |
|
and the fact is that Fitzgerald will be doing his job regardless of whether the press covers it.
But I think that the incessant coverage by the MSM of inane $#!^ during the last 5 years, ignoring multiple important issues that would have reflected badly on Bush makes us all WANT that coverage.
As to Fox News...I don't have cable/satellite, so I don't see any non-network news, and Fox network just doesn't come in well on my TV.
And, yes, I know there's a possibility Rove won't be indicted.

9. I think it has more to do with the fact that it's ROVE's blood |
|
that the press is smelling.
<gothic melodrama> The Evil Count has terrorized the peasants for years, but now they know that he CAN be killed. They are storming the castle with torches, pitchforks, and wooden stakes to put an end to his reign of terror.
They want to take him out while he's vulnerable - and it's too late to back out now. If he survives, he'll destroy those who dared to oppose him. </gothic>

14. What's that saying about killing a king? |
|
You have to strike hard and sure, yes, they're getting their shot and if they screw up, it's the last. I think roberts is too clean, he's covered in vasoline and will in all liklihood slip through, but there's another game afoot, and the press isn't taking the bait.

Actually, it looks like they did "play the game" by ignoring a story that deserves to be the lead.

NOTHING about him in the news, it's too quiet. I am hoping something will blow soon - like Kerik.
